I was lucky enough to see Sabbath a couple of times in the 70s - they were great and VERY loud. I think I can sometimes still hear them ringing in my ears at night. RIP Ozzy

Yes, she’d been poorly for a while. I saw Peggy Seeger at The Stables - the superb venue that she and her husband Johnny Dankworth founded - recently, but Cleo was too unwell to come and see/join her.

Oh no!...That's so sad to hear! A true force of nature as a performer, with an incredible voice! As a small kid back in the early 70s, I can clearly recall a sleepover at a mates house, and Cleo performing "Send in the Clowns" on some late evening TV show. It must have made a real lasting impression, because I can still picture that moment as clear as day... Rest in peace Cleo...

George Kooymans, guitarist and anchor of Golden Earring; he was 77 and died the day after Ozzy. Being Dutch it likely by now doesn't make a lot of headlines abroad anymore (here in NL: big news), but back in the 1970s, that band had international acclaim (Radar Love!). Until his illness (George suffered from ALS) broke up the band, they actually were around longer than The Stones (1961-2021!) though by now the latter clearly have won this "race". There will be a farewell concert by the rest of the Earring, five sellouts in January next year.

Tejano accordian master Flaco Jiminez, age 86.
We saw him several times, usually as a featured performer of one or two songs at local concerts, or as a frequent guest of Los Lobos. He was a Texas music legend, born in San Antonio, who enjoyed his greatest commercial success in the 1980s and 1990s as a member of the Texas Tornados with Doug Sahm and Freddy Fender (R.I.P. both). He inspired generations of musicians to take up joyful Tejano and zydeco music. R.I.P.

Now sadly confirmed, if only from the sheer number of connected informed parties posting their tributes. Terry Reid was a huge talent, even in the somewhat diminished latter years when I saw him several times. RIP, Sir.

Keyboardist and songwriter Bobby Whitlock, age 77.
We had the pleasure of seeing Bobby and his wife, CoCo Carmel, at the Road to Austin concert back in 2007. He told stories about recording the Layla album, and played a scorching version of Layla with guitarists Eric Johnson and David Grissom subbing for Eric Clapton and Duane Allman. I gather he lived near here for the last 20 years or so. R.I.P.
