Guitarist and songwriter Rick Derringer, 77.
He was responsible for “Hang on Sloopy” (as founder and singer of the McCoys) and “Rock and Roll Hootchie Coo” (a hit for him and Johnny Winter, as well). He’s all over the Edgar Winter Group’s biggest LP, “They Only Come Out at Night.” And I just learned that he produced most of Weird Al Yankovic’s early albums. He was on my bucket list but I never got to see him. RIP

And he worked as Steely Dan side man - just listen to him on "Showbiz Kids". Rumour had that Becker & Fagin asked him to join the Dan, but he declined. I also read that he became a loopy-lou "Religious Right" follower late in like and was an enthusiastic Trumphead. Sad.

I became aware of his conversion when I innocently visited his Facebook page for the first time a couple of years ago, seeking tour dates. He was unabashed. As I said recently re: Daltrey, there are advantages in not knowing the personal views of one’s favorite artists.

Jazz drummer Al Foster. Probably best known as a member of Miles Davis' band.

Only just learned that Bob Andrews of Brinsley Schwarz and The Rumour has passed away. Six days ago, apparently.

We are at a loss for words right now.
Please respect our privacy at this time as our family grieving.
We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world.

In this instance, the term “genius” is fully deserved. RIP Brian

Well that didn't sound at all callous. Farewell, Brian, you utter legend. Jules It wasn't meant to. Just matter of fact. Okay i see i didn't read the room very well, probably because there isn't a room to read. I don't think my remark would have upset any but the most sensitive of people in the real world, rather than online.

So sad about Brian Wilson. We saw him once with the Beach Boys 50th Anniversary Tour, and five times as a solo performer with Al Jardine, sometimes Blondie Chaplin or David Marks, and even Jeff Beck. We even got to have our photo made with him twice, in Houston October 1, 2013, and in Austin May 13, 2017. He was a good sport, although I've read that he was painfully shy and I presume he did not enjoy these photo ops. My fondest memory is how he blushed and looked away every time he caught Mrs. J From A's eye in the front row in Austin. R.I.P. and thanks for the music.

Had no idea that Jeff Beck tour was a thing...

Of all the artists that have had the massive boxset retrospectives , the Beach Boys are the one I go back to listen to the most , if only to figure out how he/they did it! Sure he didn't create it all by himself , but the talent , the drive , the experimentation , phew RIP Brian
