Martin Birch is a name I used to see on various HR/HM albums I bought back in the 80s including Iron Maiden and Whitesnake. On Maiden's Live After Death he did the whole lot - producing, engineering and mixing. I seem to remember him being given the nickname of "The Headmaster" on one of their album covers. Sad news.

Sad news. I had a double cassette of him and John Williams playing together. Lovely.

very sad news Bream was a brilliant guitarist, however much I love Miles Davis I do not believe his recording got anywhere near breams, I feel the grief and loss to my soul every time I hear bream play Concerto de Aranjuez

Pete Way, bless him.

That's three members of UFO that have left us in not much more than a year, four if Larry Wallis' brief tenure counts.

Justin Townes Earle aged 38.

Oh jeez no That's a shock. You'd have bet money on his dad at that age but surely this is out of the blue?

I saw him live once, it may have been at Cambridge, and he didn't strike me as a happy soul, he looked like a man with demons.

RIP JTE you died tragically young, condolences to your family, wife and daughter.

Yes, sad. There was some rumour that  news of his death was a hoax but it's all too true, unfortunately.

Toots Hibbert, aged 77.  Sad

I have been listening to Toots a fair bit over the summer and was watching him on an old Willie Nelson TV special on Sky Arts just a couple of nights ago.

Toots was one of the best live performers I have ever seen. His show at Alexandra Palace 3 years ago was unforgettable.
