Richard Treece 1949-2015

You probably haven't heard of him, but if you know Help Yourself and Green Ray, you'll know of him.  One of the truly great British psychedelic guitarists.  RIP Richard.

I knew his name (via the Man connection to Help Yourself), but had not heard of Green Ray - must do a bit of digging... RIP Richard.

Love 'Help Yourself'.  Met him a few years back at a Green Ray gig. Father was Henry Treece? (he of many Viking sagas I read as a kid - Puffin paperbacks)

Cheers,

Rather sadly, I only came to really appreciate Help Yourself rather late on. A bit of local over-exposure in the early 70s I suppose. Still love their set at the Zig-Zag benefit at the Roundhouse. Hope he's now jamming again with Ken Whalley. RIP

In the world of traditional American folk few names loom larger than Jean Ritchie. She passed away yesterday at age 92.

Ronnie Gilbert, who was in the Weavers along with Lee Hayes, Fred Hellerman and of course Pete Seeger. Wonderful singer and activist.

James Last has breathed his last. He was 86 and had just completed a farewell tour.

Gosh, I thought he'd go on forever.

I can't say I was a fan, but he certainly had legions of them and wasn't afraid to tackle any genre. RIP Mr Last

Been playing this in his honour.  More sideys than on a 1973 football pitch.  Quality stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g503fR3BvVk

Was scared by free jazz but some of what Ornette did was masterful sad news.

I never took to free improv either, but Ornette was a towering figure in jazz. RIP.
