Did some wonderful stuff. 'With a Little help' is a great live album. Sadly his drinking/alcoholism affected his career. Could have been so much more. Like Jim. I saw him live when he could hardly stand never mind deliver a song.

I saw him in Dallas in 1983 with the A.R.M.S. tour, singing with an all-star band (Clapton, Kenney Jones, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts, Andy Fairweather-Low, Chris Stainton, and Ray Cooper). He sang "With a Little Help From My Friends" backed by the aforementioned musicians, plus Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page and Paul Rodgers. Unforgettable. R.I.P. Joe. P.S. - He opened for the Guess Who on their U.S. reunion tour in 2000, which I missed God dammit! |

Mike is a massive Joe fan. We've been lucky to see him 3 times - the first at a free Jubilee event in 2001 at Cardiff Bay. I will never forget Mike's face when Joe walked onto the stage about 10ft away from him. We also saw him at The Tower of London and at his home town of Sheffield. Each time he put on a polished performance, hitting that high note at the end of You Are So Beautiful every time...
Sad news. RIP Joe.

Ah, that's sad. I was lucky enough to be able to use a business trip to Glasgow to see Heritage des Celtes (supported by Martyn Bennett) close the Celtic Connections festival some years ago. Turned out that the hotel I'd booked into was the venue for the after-hours sessions, AND most of the musicians were staying there that night as well... blimey, Bagad Kemper didn't half neck back the ale. Must be all thirsty work blowing into bombards, binious and pipes!

I heard that another one of Neil Young's sidemen has passed away. Tim Drummond was the bass player with The Stray Gators (Harvest; Harvest Moon), and also played with Bob Dylan, James Brown, Eric Clapton, J. J. Cale, Miles Davis, B.B. King, Joe Cocker, and others. RIP, Tim.
