I love blues but could never take to Johnny Winter's solo records, he didnt seem to have a quality control option,just went on and on. Then i got his lps with Muddy Waters, where he had to play with restraint and he was fabulous. I love those records but still wish he had shown similar restraint on his own stuff.

I saw Johnny and Edgar Winter many, many, many years ago. At the time I thought them absolutely fabulous. Although I never followed his career, I am sorry he has left us.

Dick Wagner, aged 71. Played guitar for Lou Reed, Alice Cooper and dozens of other albums by the likes of Aerosmith, Kiss and Rod Stewart.
He was also frontman and lead guitarist for a band called The Frost, in the late 60's/early 70's. Their first album, that I puchased, was imaginatively entitled 'Frost Music', if memory serves me right. |

i saw photos of Rod at lou martins funeral and he didnt look a particularly well man. Thats only Gerry McAvoy left from Rory's great mid-late 70's band. RIP Rod |

It seems Rod didn't have the best of times after being ousted from Rory's band. He emigrated to the States, got married and had a baby, but during a return visit to the UK had an accident when running for a moving train in which he lost an eye and ended up in a coma with brain damage and total memory loss. When his wife left their New York apartment to visit him in hospital it was cleared out by looters. As a result they stayed in London and started again, but although his memory returned slowly his injuries meant he could no longer play. Pretty tragic story, RIP Rod. |

Didn't know this. Sad. I believe RG kept the same band for a long time. He joined in 1972 and the last lp he appeared on was calling card from 76, after which he and Lou Martin got the push and he was replaced by Ted McKenna from the SAHB. So not that long a time. |

I knew about Jean Redpath, but I've only just heard about Buddy MacMaster. Buddy was a true master of his style. |
