Sorry to hear of the passing of Dave Brubeck. As GubGub said - I too thought he was immortal.  Sad

On top of being an ace human being, he was the door through which alot of people became aware of America's richest musical vein, and in many cases, it became a lifelong commitment. RIP Mr Brubeck

So sad...just seen on the Spirit Facebook account:

"Folks, Mark Andes just announced that our beloved Ed" Mr. Skin" Cassidy had died this morning at 7:30 west coast time. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ed's family, friends and band mates. This is a sad day, indeed."

Such a great drummer...89 years old.  He bridged the generations..

Sadder than sad. We saw Spirit at the Lyceum in London in early 1970. One of the guys I was at the gig with was a little worse for wear, and was pestering Cass for an autograph. Cass just kept chatting to him to keep him quiet. Then he whips a felt tip pen off someone and wrote across my friend's tee shirt 'Stay cool - Don't be a fool'. He stayed talking for about 15 mins. I think most of the other people there thought he was a roadie.

Now that is very sad, although not unexpected...He always seemed like a loveable if somewhat damaged old soul....

Underrated guitarist too.

Very sad, though I hadn't realised his age.

12 Dreams was a big part of the soundtrack of my College days and beyond. I will listen to it this afternoon ans raise a glass.

I only saw Hawkwind once in 1985. I remember them coming on stage in black robes and can't say it was a very memorable gig. In fact I enjoyed the support band, Dumpy's Rusty Nuts, more and left half way through Hawkwind's set. But it's sad to hear of Huw's passing.

According to Wikipedia, he played with Leo Sayer in the 70s. Bit of a change from Hawkwind!

Sad news.

John Harrison, who also played on the debut album, died last May, and Robert Heaton died a few years ago but was only in the band for ten minutes anyway. Bob Calvert died in 1988 but considering the band they are, and how many members they have had, they have been a resilient bunch, and long may that continue.

I'd go with that.  Brings back happy memories of spending Sunday evenings in the Marquee Club where the HLL Group had some kind of residency..got to the hallowed dressing rooms (or the sloping tunnel behind the stage.  Loved Huw's work with Hawkwind - very inventive and for those doubters take a listen to the Levitation album.

But it's important to remember that you and your descendants will be able to hear them all, thanks to digital preservation of music. You can still hear them excel, no pops, crackles or deterioration. Magic, really.

Aaaw!...That's sad news !... Cry

But 92 !...Wow !...Good show !... Wink

I'm sure it's been discussed in depth elsewhere, but was just wondering what direction the Beatles and especially George Harrisons music would have taken, if Ravi's influence hadn't been in the equation from "Rubber Soul" onwards...
