R.I.P. Michael Dunford of Renaissance. He had just returned home from the first leg of the band’s North American tour and suffered a massive Instantaneous Cerebral Haemorrhage while dining at his home in Surrey, England Monday night. He was rushed to hospital where doctors declared his condition irreversible and terminal. He passed away at 11:06 pm GMT, surrounded by his family without having regained consciousness.
Very saddened by this. Renaissance were very underrated. Listening to Novella as I write this. That opening track is stunning. |

Jules Such sad news, some of my first experiences of folk music, came from Radio Ballads and such things brought in by one of my infant school, teachers, often featuring Ian Campbell. I Always enjoyed his music and was disappointed that the only time I saw him live was at swarbs Birthday Bash at Birmingham town hall. |

Oh dear. I first encountered Ian's music on a Transatlantic sampler called (I think) 'Listen Here' which came out when I was in my teens. This was a pivotal record for me - introduced me to the music of Pentangle, Ralph McTell, and - indirectly - Joni Mitchell, 'cos Ian did Circle Game'. |

I love the live album the ICFG did. I am also sure when I was at primary school in the mid to late 1970s, we used to do 'country dancing' to Ian Campbell records. I can still recall all of us boys jostling to be next to a certain girl during the dancing. |

There is an obituary in the Guardian today. Complete with a great picture of the ICFG.
Included in the photo is a young fiddle player, I wonder what happened to him?

Oh man! I thought he was immortal. A wonderful man who made wonderful music his whole life. Time Out will be getting a spin in tribute and his Christmas album will be a bittersweet listen this year.

Loved Brubeck a great man who gave us Jazz, yes it was accessible, but he didn't comprimise and he came across as a thoroughly decent human being, who did what he loved with musicians he loved to play with. Jazz Impressions of Japan, will go on tonight and under its' spell I shall drift away. Thanks Dave.
