Reports coming through that Blondie drummer Clem Burke has passed away at 70...very sad news...

From Blondie's FB page :

"It is with profound sadness that we relay news of the passing of our beloved friend and bandmate Clem Burke following a private battle with cancer.
Clem was not just a drummer; he was the heartbeat of Blondie. His talent, energy, and passion for music were unmatched, and his contributions to our sound and success are immeasurable. Beyond his musicianship, Clem was a source of inspiration both on and off the stage. His vibrant spirit, infectious enthusiasm and rock solid work ethic touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Clem's influence extended far beyond Blondie. A self proclaimed "Rock & Roll survivalist”, he played and collaborated with numerous iconic artists, including Eurythmics, Ramones, Bob Dylan, Bob Geldof, Iggy Pop, Joan Jett, Chequered Past, The Fleshtones, The Romantics, Dramarama, The Adult Net, The Split Squad, The International Swingers, L.A.M.F., Empty Hearts, Slinky Vagabond, and even the Go-Go's. His influence and contributions have spanned decades and genres, leaving an indelible mark on every project he was a part of.

We extend our deepest condolences to Clem's family, friends, and fans around the world. His legacy will live on through the tremendous amount of music he created and the countless lives he touched. As we navigate this profound loss, we ask for privacy during this difficult time. Godspeed, Dr. Burke.
Debbie, Chris, and the entire Blondie family"

Wow that is sad to hear. Really good drummer which I don’t think I fully realized until I got the Blondie box set and had a deep dive into those early albums.

One track he recorded with Iggy was the title song for the movie Repo Man, the rest of the band being Nigel Harrison on bass and Steve Jones on guitar.

Clem also played in Hugh Cornwell's band on and off for a while. Nice tribute from Hugh on social media saying he basically let Clem do his own thing whereas in Blondie he had to be a bit more restrained. There are a few HC clips on YouTube showing Clem letting his hair down. Great drummer. Sad news.

Dave Arbus, once the violin player with the band East of Eden. He famously guested with The Who on Baba O'Riley.

Producer Roy Thomas Baker.

I am most familiar with his work for Queen, The Cars, and Journey. I love those huge choruses of multi-layered vocals, which are his signature sound. I remember how flaccid everyone's vocals sounded in live performance, compared to those epic recordings. R.I.P. to a very talented producer.

Anyone remember the episode of "KY TV" where they were sowing a montage of early 60s newsreels with completely unsuitable music?  E.g.  footage from the Cuban Missile Crisis accompanied by Lulu singing "Boom bang a bang", the footage from JFK's funeral accompanied by Clodagh Rogers singing "I'm just your jack in the box"?

David Thomas of Pere Ubu, and numerous side projects including many with FC connections.

From the official FB page:

David Thomas, June 14 1953 - April 23 2025.
David Lynn Thomas, lead singer of Pere Ubu, Rocket From The Tombs and multiple solo projex, has died after a long illness.
On Wednesday, April 23 2025, he died in his home town of Brighton & Hove, with his wife and youngest step-daughter by his side. MC5 were playing on the radio. He will ultimately be returned to his home, the farm in Pennsylvania, where he insisted he was to be “thrown in the barn.”
David Thomas and his band have been recording a new album. He knew it was to be his last. We will endeavour to continue with mixing and finalising the new album so that his last music is available to all. Aside from that, he left instruction that the work should continue to catalog all the tapes from live shows via the official bandcamp page. His autobiography was nearly completed and we will finish that for him. Pere Ubu’s Patreon will continue as a community, run by communex.
We’ll leave you with his own words, which sums up who he was better than we can  -
“My name is David ******g Thomas…  and I’m the lead singer of the best ******g rock and roll band in the world.”
(Frigo Documentary)
Long Live Pere Ubu.

I know little or nothing about him, but i saw him play in 1999 with 2(?)  Pale Boys .  They were supporting the late Kevin Coyne, whom  I always liked.

I don't recall that episode, but I'm going to have to seek it out on Youtube now

Very sad.   He was at the centre of  it  all with Ralph, Bert and John, and all the others.   I feel he wasn't credited enough.

Lovely story teller and musician. Lucky to have seen him back in the 80s and then a few years ago at the Wychwood club. Fabulous musician who didn't seem to chase fame.
