I've loved the music of the Stones for the majority of my life, his passing really represents the end of an era...the changing of the guard... |

He's a shoe-in as the drummer of Keith's X-pensive Winos. Steve Jordan, Steve Ferrone, and Steve Gadd (the Steves!) have been Eric Clapton's go-to touring drummers for several years. Steve Jordan was also the original drummer in The World's Most Dangerous Band (Late Night with David Letterman, 1982-1986). He was already a session player of some renown when Paul Shaffer formed that quartet. I have mad respect for him. |

Ronnie was officially declared a member of the Rolling Stones on 23 April 1976. I know Steve Jordan has class, I was repeating a jokey description of him from an interview Charlie gave. |

That's the date he joined the band, not the date he became a co-owner of the brand (or whatever the business/legal entity is). He was a wage slave for about twenty odd years (like Daryl Jones is now) before he became one quarter of the Rolling Stones (presumably now one third) in the 90's, I think. |

Nice posting on Twitter from Damon Hill I bumped into Charlie Watts once. In Ronnie Scott's. He looked surprised to see me 'What you doin here!' he asked. 'I've come to see you' I said. He looked perplexed. Because he had no ego. I've only seen the Stones once, back when Bill was still on bass, but have loved Charlie's drumming ever since my sister bought copies of Rolled Gold and Made in the Shade back in the 70s. I was sad to read about Charlie Watts passing. I only ever saw him perform once and it was at a very memorable gig in Nottingham in around 1984. The gig was a tribute to Alexis Korner at the Palais de Dance. One of my lecturers helped organise the gig so he told us about it as soon as he dared in order for us to secure some tickets. My self and several friends sat at the front of the stage and treated to the following musicians:
Jimmy Page
Jack Bruce
Charlie Watts
Ruby Turner
Ian Stewart
Paul Jones
Dick Heckstall-Smith
Don Weller
John Picard
Roger Sutton
Willie Garnett
Somewhere I have a tape cassette of the gig with my lecturer at the time (Les Eastham) introducing the band on stage.

Me too, I remember my sis and I having an argument over who was buying the single of Duke of Earl...not sure why...a funny age, we were at! |
