Yep - it's Rock Scully (co-manager at the time of this pic). Mickey Hart joined a year or so later... Cheers, Slippy

Duh. Should have clocked that, as I've seen that pic, sans Bernice, before. I blame a surfeit of Licor 43. Just realised that Pigpen has look of the Edgar Broughtons about him...

Uploaded back in 2014, but I just discovered it...Jerry Garcia Band live footage from 1976, from a gig on a boat that sailed around New York. Quite enjoyable. https://youtu.be/ujGkFhSOPw4

New album due from saxophonist Dave McMurray, all Dead covers. First song released is "Loser", with Bettye LaVette on vocals and Bob Weir on guitar, along with Don Was, Jay Lane, Jeff Chimenti and Greg Leisz. It's SUPERB. Here's an article about it, with the music video: https://www.jambase.com/article/dave-mcmurray-grateful-dead-dedication-tribute-album-loser

I like Bettye's voice but the music is just too AOR Jazzy for me, closest to some early 90s Dead live jamming perhaps? Not my thing, but the great thing about Dead music is there's something there for everyone....

Saw Bettye at Ulverston coronation hall a few years ago great backing on that gig, a week later I was disappointed by Patti Smith at the same venue.

We've had this conversation before...that (and the previous night in Kendal) was one of my all time favourite gigs. Happily, I find there are soundboards of all 7 shows in my vault. That's $200 saved.

My friend's band have played there, they specialise in rock, old R'n'B and blues bands. I'm seriously thinking of going to this!

I'm just double checking that you realise this is the Live Dead '69 show and not the Jefferson Airplane/Starship family bit...the link page could be regarded as a little confusing...it's all (well mostly) the same band but two very different projects.

No I didn't, I would have preferred the latter tbh

There's a time and a place for Dead & Co...and they're great fun, but if you want a somewhat more challenging (arguably) take on the Dead's music...the expanded Bobby & the Wolf Bros lineup are (I think) fab and hit several spots for me. See what you think https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-R00mSIIGk

On another matter; I see on FB, someone in the UK has been clobbered with £63 excess charges on importing the new box set.
