$116k? Inevitable, maybe, but I don't think I'll bother.  Smiley

It's quite enjoyable how bitter and twisted some of the unlucky fans have become.  The band couldn't win.  They couldn't lose.  They got it about right, I'm guessing...

I have one American Deadhead friend who got tickets for all 3 shows.  That's the only person I know who was successful.  She's happy.

That's cool.  And, it is local for me, in the Washington, D.C. area.  I'm not a huge fan of festivals, but depending on ticket prices, I think this one might be worthwhile.

Unless there's an all-star jam at the end (likely, I'd have thought) I don't think the 'core 4' will be playing together but still...

I was wondering about that.  And there will sure be a lot of disappointment if they don't.

Recently I've had couple of recommendations from Amazon regarding some archive releases that might be of interest to some.

The full set from a 1972 W-KSAN broadcast from Pacific High Recorders, San Francisco, of Garcia + Merle Saunders, John Khan & Billy Kreutzman. This makes a nice companion to the "Keystone" releases from the same period.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00T51RZT4/ref=dm_rogue_cd

Plus a more expansive & apparently complete New Riders show from the Felt Forum, NYC, in 1973. also an FM broadcast. With 38 songs over3 discs with various Dead bods, inc Garcia & Weir. popping up now & again, there's not too much (or not enough) noodling.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Felt-Forum-NYC-3cd-set/dp/B00THMKVYM/ref=pd_sim_m_h__2?ie=UTF8&refRID=08HN6YF72N1V9CWSG4GJ

After a brief rummage in the vaults (cellar), the relevant cassettes have been located & revisited, both items are a real delight. Neither are essential listening, but assuming the new releases have been cleaned up to good standard, I'd recommend them to anyone who's committed enough to read this far. A most enjoyable afternoon's listening & good to give the old Nakamichi an airing.  Smiley

Forgive me if the answer to my query has already been posted in this thread (51 pages is a lot to look through!)

I very much prefer the more acoustic Dead to the interminable jamming one. I love the American Beauty and Workingman's Dead albums, but my absolute favourite is the live album "Reckoning"
I know the Dead have made many live albums (such as the Dick's Picks series), but could anyone recommend any that are in a similar vein to Reckoning?

Dick's Picks vol 8 includes both acoustic and electric sets from a 1970 gig and has long been a fan favourite.

Or you could pick up the Dead Ahead DVD of the 1980 shows from which Reckoning was compiled.

Also, starting on this page you can find the Warfield and Radio City shows if you want to stream the acoustic sets from which Reckoning was gleaned:

There's also "Bear's Choice" which is from the same time period as Workingman's Dead and has one whole acoustic side.

Don't know if anyone has been following the problems Shindig mag has been having (effectively their own mag has been stolen by the publishers and reissued as Kaleidoscope featuring Shindig) but here is the cover of the next issue of Shindig which may or may not find itself onto the high street in the near future  Smiley
