What ignorant arseholes. It's why I really struggle with a lot of live music these days. I just don't understand it at all...

One of the good guys!
I'm not a blues fan, but I just love Pp's voice and harmonica in the Dead. From what i've read, he died as he lived, a hard drinking blues man.

He wasn't quite so hard drinking towards the end. He got very poorly indeed and wasted away. Big shame. He was writing his best Grateful Dead songs towards the end too. Jules

A US Deadhead of mine who I met at UKC in '85 and who gave me my first ever live tapes went to that gig. She was very happy to see that, so thanks again Today is Phil's 73rd. Chose a nice Box of Rain to play in his honour.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tr2xSpZPENsI'm just putting this one up for the Wharf Rat. Its an ok show, but jump to the 56 minute mark to behold the best version of this song I ever had the good fortune to see. IMO, the best Rats were done in '77 and '78. None of the other ones I saw in the 80s came close to those epic versions. Every time Garcia would begin to play the distorted blissful riffs of angst in his solo between the last verses, I'd pray for him to knock it out of the park.........only to settle for a few good barks and then back into the vocals. I had already resigned myself into believing that the best Rats were behind us - but that night would be different. THE MAN delivered!
