"The Vast Recorded Legacy of the Grateful Dead" - A great article in the new New Yorker
http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2012/11/26/121126fa_fact_paumgarten

Thanks for this great article. It's very well written and really gets to grips with the Dead archive phenomenon. Unfortunately i'm going to have to come back later to finish reading.  Cool

Really good read, even if you're not as au fait with the subject as you could be.

Here's an interview with Bill Vitt, he was the drummer in the Garcia - Saunders Band.  I knew that he was in the Sons of Champlin at one stage, but didn't know that he'd played on all these other sessions.  What a great and versatile band they were.

And here's a related post from the same author, listing his 13 favorite recordings and why:

Which I'm not - inspite of having several Dick's Picks in my collection. Eagerly awaiting the Black Friday 2LP Live @ Winterland '71.  Cool

Excellent article.  Long, but well written and worth the read I think.

Never thought to do it that way, putting them in chrono order.  Great idea!  Definitely do that at the end of the month, and for last year's.

And the year before!

Jules

Unfortunately I only discovered the "30 Days of the Dead" last year, and don't have the 2010.

I know that it's a while since what would have been JG's 70th, but I hadn't seen all of this before.  What a guy eh?   Cool
