Well I was born in '67.  Was I around at the time, then? Wink

I've been 4 days working this out.

Three more shows from the Download Series sitting here ready to be converted from FLAC to wav.  First up is Volume 8 from late '73.  These shows are great fun - it's like you get to make your own album from the constituate parts.   Smiley

It's likely that the burning software he uses cannot handle flacs. It was my understanding that even software that does handle flacs does so by converting to wav in the background before converting to cda ... have they improved on that process?

Can't play FLACs on my boombox or in the car or on my hi-fi either.

I rarely listen to music on a PC.

Then why download in FLAC in the first place? Does the site have an option for downloading in other formats? Any time you transcode a file (even between two lossless formats) you lose a small amount of the quality.

Only other format was MP3, which sound like a piece of cr*p.

What bitrate? If it's higher than 192kbps, I doubt you can tell the difference between that and FLAC.

Why would I bother finding out when FLAC was an option?

Do they cost the same? Do you ever listen to them on your computer or just burn them straight to disc? You might as well save yourself the download time and disk space if the mp3 bitrate is high enough.

i have no problem with mp3 with a bitrate of 192 and over
mp3 gets a bad name when people start doing mp3's of cds that were recorded from mp3 in the first place thats why i mark my cds as whether they were recorded from wav/flacs or mp3
i mp3 most of my stuff to e-mail or use in a mp3 player and keep the flacs should i want to burn a cd

Cost the same?  Yes - both options were free and gratis.  Do I listen on PC?  No.  Straight to disc?  Yes.  Will my hi-fi, car stereo and boombox play either FLAC or MP3?  No.  Therefore the answers are simple enough.  But I'd only ever choose MP3 if it were the only option, and would choose FLAC even if FLAC were the pricier option.
