What I mean is, there are programs that allow you to burn FLAC files to audio CDs that will play in a standard CD player, just like a CD burnt with WAV files will. They factor the decompression of the FLAC file in at burn time so you don't need to convert the file beforehand.

That sounds cool.  Would have saved me some considerable time with the '72 Dead stuff.

Will check the new thread if it does indeed move home....

I don't think it will make it as far as a separate thread Jules but I did already link to some software for the job:

the freeware Burrrn.

I'm trying to hunt down a copy of Dick's Picks Volume 28.  Recordings from February 1973.  Deadnet is sold out, Spin CDs are sold out, Amazon has none, and two copies sold on eBay this past fortnight for silly prices.

Holy Moses...who's got £105 to spend on a 4 CD set these days?  Plenty of people apparently...  Crazyness.

I just snagged a DP28 on eBay.  £28 plus £1 p+p.  Result!   Smiley

Heh heh heh heh.

The eBayers who forked out over £100 would be feeling pretty silly right now.....if they even cared.....or knew the value of a dollar/pound.

I had a change of heart and mind and ordered a copy of Beyond Description from Base on Friday.  It's here already!   Smiley

Did anyone get in quick and score the bonus disc for this set?

Unfortunately not, you had to order direct and pre release.
You can get all but the rehearsal track from the archive though. Grin

What was the bonus disc then?

BD definitely worth it for Reckoning, Dead Set, Mars Hotel & much of Wake Of the Flood, Terrapin Station & In The Dark. A few other gems dotted here and there too. I can't understand why Without A Net was not included though. It leaves one official release outside of the two boxed sets. A strange decision.

Just Google Beyond Description Bonus Disc and you'll get a tracklisting.

I'd pretty much agree with that, but with stronger emphasis on Wake Of The Flood which I've now grown to love.

Oh yes. I'd entirely forgotten that! And I don't have a copy. Hmmm. How essential is that I wonder?

Edit: Expunged from the canon it would seem, judging by the Amazon prices! How odd for an official release.

Steal Your Face?  You can pick it up cheaper.  It's a double, remember (even if it is a short double).

I've heard it and it's....it's OK.  The vocals are a bit dodgy in terms of recording quality.  They sound harsh.  But the performances are OK.  All songs, no jamming.  The hardcore Deadheads didn't like that so much, so I've read.

It's kind of been replaced by The Grateful Dead Movie Soundtrack.  Same set of shows.

Where do you get your Road Trips from, folks?  Direct from the States, or from Spin CDs, or elsewhere?

Theoretically cheaper from the US, but can be stung by postage and customs fees....and dead.net are a bit iffy on the cutomer services front imho... I tend to buy from Spin but sometimes their prices are sometimes silly too..  Not sure of other alternatives that can guarantee the bonus discs....

Yes I've been caught out by customs charges before now.  I think it's Spin for me.

My Dick's Picks 28 arrived and so I started listening last night.  I must say it's a stormer so far - spirited and tuneful singing from the chaps, and Jerry is playing his socks off on lead.

Going to try and preorder the new Road Trips from Spin today if they're doing preorders already.
