I don't quite see this one. I always thought it clever when viewed in full context. 'Forget it dear, its not the first, there's bound to be another....' Like a what is this world coming to conversation at the breakfast table.

Yes, Robert, but who would ever describe their breakfast as going rotten?

Jules

ďquite rottenĒ is even stranger.

This maybe excessive but this track by OV Wright, which I can't find the lyrics for anywhere seems to say the following (although it might be different I am not certain he had his teeth in when he sang it!

I don't do Windows O.V. Wright

Iíve gotta tell yíall about a girl I know
When it comes to loviní sheís gotta limit to go
She says before we get started Iíve gotta tell you one thing
I know youíre reputation, how you like a girls to swing

Sheís says you can nibble on my ears and do it far as you want to
But donít expect for me to do the same to you
When it comes to lovin I donít mind getting down
But I aint gonna tread on unforbidden ground

Cause I donít do windows
I donít wash no panes
That kinda loviní, Just aint my thing
I donít do windows
Youve gotta find someone else
For that kinda thang
She says I donít do windows
Dont mind running on the floor
But old fashioned loviní
Is far as Iím gonna go

She says Iím sorry to disappoint ya, if that was on your mind
I might look the kind, but Iím not that kind
When it comes to parting Iím really no square
You gotta take it like you end it
You better leave it there.....leave it there

Cause I donít do windows
I donít wash no panes
That kinda loviní, Just aint my thing
I donít do windows
Donít mind rubbing on the floor
But old fashioned loviní is as far as Iím gonna go
Cause I donít do windows
I donít wash no panes
That kinda lovin
Just aint my thing

Errrm song lyrics don't have to rhyme, it's the sense of the story which is the important thing..
I think that anyway †Undecided

Not just you, Jude. I thought this was well known..maybe not.

Assonance (at its best):

Sickly sausage rolls
Slippin' down slowly
Slippin' down sideways

Then there's the (admittedly great) song by The Divine Comedy extolling the virtues of life in "Sweden":

"Ingmar Bergman
Henrik Ibsen
Karin Larsson
Nina Persson
Sweden, Sweden, Sweden
In Sweden."

Except Henrik Ibsen was from Norway.

Bill Bailey used to parody that with "I got ham, but I'm not a hamster"

Very true but sometimes it just feels as though the lyricist is striving for a rhyme but falling clumsily wide of the mark.

Lyrics that do not even attempt to rhyme are perfectly reasonable. Trying to pretend that "salamander" and "answer" actually do rhyme, not so much.

No more pencils no more books
No more teacher's dirty looks yeah
Well we got no class
And we got no principals
And we got no innocence
We can't even think of a word that rhymes

That does remind me; ABC's The Look Of Love:

Reminds me of my favourite 'This is terrible, I love it' song, Del Shannon's Swiss Maid

One time a long time ago,
On a mountain in Switzerland,
Yo lo lo lo,
There lived a fair young maiden,
Lovely but lonely,
Oh oh oh oh.
Day after day,
She'd pine her heart away,
Yo lo lo lady ya,
But no love came her way.
Some day papa said,
Some day we'll go,
Down to the village in the valley,
Then you'll meet a nice young man,
Ask for your hand,
Then you'll be happy
Every day she grew unhappier,
On a mountain in Switzerland,
Yo lo lo lo,
Every day a little bit lonelier,
Which way to turn and which way to go
Day after day,
She'd pine her heart away,
Yo lo lo lady ya,
But no love came her way.
Some say the maidens dream,
Never came true,
She never got to go to the valley,
If she did or not,
I really don't know, Oh oh oh oh.
Did she die unhappy?
I'd rather think she found her love,
Wouldn't she be better if she did find love?
Somewhere,
Some way.
Yo lo lo lady ya
Yo lo lo lady ya
