According to this months Classic Rock mag, Matty G has been voted the 28th best British song of all time!! Way ahead of other songs like 'Ferry Cross the Mersey', 'Merry Christmas Everybody'. 'Fog on the Tyne is at No 53'.

Number 1 is 'Penny Lane'/'Strawberry Fields Forever' (not supprising). No 2 is 'The Village Green Preservation Society' which most people listening to radio 2 will think it was written by Kate Ruseby, but of course it was written by Ray Davies in 1968.

Sticking with this month's mags, Portishead's new album has been compared to Fairport in the latest Mojo...

Yeah.Apparently the range of influences on Third sound more like Portishead have been listening to Fairport this time around rather than someone more obvious like Massive Attack.I haven't heard the album yet and I wouldn't imagine one would be able to spot a direct "influence" as such but if it's a matter of feel and overall vibe then it gets my vote!

It's a Double A sided single...

Oh right.
Where there more like that Shameless FolkRocker Huh
Because that would kind of lose the effect of having one great song.

And Goldfrapp's new album apparently has echoes & influences of "folk"...

It's certainly very mellow and somewhat ethereal...and I'm pretty sure one of the reviews I read actually mentioned Fairport in it...

I've heard it, but it doesn't sound in the slightest like Fairport Convention.Quite a bit like Goldfrapp in places.
