Friday night, 12-Oct, my wife and I spent an enjoyable evening at the New Bedford Whaling Museum to see a gig by a lovely and talented young Scots singer named Emily Smith, fronting her Emily Smith Band.
The band consisted of her husband Jamie McClelland on fiddle, guitar, whistle and keyboard, and an excellent musician named Ross Milligan on banjo and guitar. She played accordian and keyboards as well as providing sublime vocals on both traditional and original songs. She reminded me of a mix of Kathryn Roberts, Eddi Reader and Maggie Boyle. I was struck by how she coaxed the sound of bagpipes out of her accordian.

I really enjoyed the rapport between the band members which they successfully extended to include the audience.

There are more pictures in the Longdogs gallery. If you have a chance to see these people, don't pass it up.
