Does anyone have any suggestions of an RT song that I could teach a group of 12-13 year olds that is fairly easy to play? Idealy it should appeal to them, as they have to vote to do it. Cheers

"Meet on the Ledge" possibly, though the subject matter might be considered a bit grim for a group of 13 year olds to sing.

I have actually done that one, along with Now Be Thankful. Thay liked NBT, but loved MOTL and we still do it now and then. I was think of one from his solo career. As for Crazy Man Michael, it doen't really have a chorus or particually easy words to learn.

You could try his treatment of "Ooops I did it again".
More (or perhaps less) seriously, "Beeswing", "Alexander Graham Bell", "My Daddy Is A Mummy", "I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight".

This group is Christian based, so methinks I'll give that one a miss Tried Beeswing, but the chords I have don't fit very well to the song. I think I may do I Want To See the Bright Lights Tonight, but other suggestions are still welcome

Have you even listened to "My Daddy Is A Mummy"? What on earth makes you think a Christian-based group wouldn't want to perform it? Of course, I'm no Christian, but I can't imagine what the objection would be. By the sound of it, "Now Be Thankful" might be what you want. Not controversial at all. Edit: Oh! I get it. Someone might think it was about Lesbians. No room for homosexuality in a Christian group then? How....sad.

I think that the title would put people off, is probably what I meant to say. Our adult co-ordinator wouldn't approve. I know that the content isn't bad at all, but if I said to our audience at our concert, "Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen, we would like to open with a song called 'My Daddy is a Mummy'" there would be a few raised eyebrows. And as said earlier, we've done Now Be Thankful, and they liked.

Get them to do "End of the Rainbow".
Seriously, the suggestion of "Jimmy Shands" was quite good. Or "Tear Stained Letter".
I have a iPod playlist called "RT Cheerful". That was quite a task.

I enjoy playing and singing Genesis Hall, the violin intro can be done on a guitar if you slide up a Dm to a Bb. Surely nobody could object to that? There is a verse about drinking up your whisky and wine, so it should go down well with catholics. Paul

Don't step on my Jimmy Shands could turn into a social history lesson and be of cultural benefit apart from the music.
Few 13 year olds are likely to have heard of Jimmy, they wouldn't understand that RT is warning people not to tread on 78s - why would anyone have music stored on a breakable medium? Why would anyone take music to a party? The list may go on.

I think I may do I Want To See the Bright Lights Tonight, but other suggestions are still welcome I missed this over the weekend so sorry to rewind all the way back to here... "My Daddy is a Mummy" is perfectly appropriate. Richard Thompson wrote it for kids after all... It's about Egyptian Pharoahs! If any of your adult co-ordinators have a problem with this concept, take them to one side and explain what the Egyptians of 5,000 years ago did to their leaders when they died. Be sure to include lots of gruesome details involving brains and internal organs and jars and suchlike Cheers Nick
