Well, there's a big get together once a year just up the coast - Sidmouth is a great festival and a magnet for folkies year round.

Show of Hands and Seth Lakeman are from that neck of the woods too aren't they?

So is Cream T of this Parish. Any ideas Cream T?

Cheers

Err having been a 'fan' of Seth lakeman for some time i can exclusively reveal that I know his local to be 'the Rock Inn' on Dartmoor. Indeed I have had the 'is it really true' conversation with the man T who confirmed it as such. Apparently Seth & friends play for ale, I'd get yourself down there sharpish (see you at the bar).

I've also heard very good things about the Sydmouth Folk festival (4th August) and if your into Jazz theres quite a good pub round the corner from my parents (who now reside in St Marychurch) The Pub I think is called the crown & Scepter the Jazz is on Monday nights.
Hope that helps, its lovely down there, let us know how you get on.

Mt T is the man too speak to. There's a couple down here in Plymouth but there are also a few places like Jack Chams who are really promoting contemporary original acoustic artists and the like. As others have said show of hands and the lakemans and ofcourse Taxi Hailer (ahem) are regulars down in these parts so you wont be let doen. If the Traditional stuff is what you dig then the Hyde Folk Club in PLymouth is good. There's also a university folk club in Topsham right next door to Exmouth. Tavistock also has a bubbling little music scene I hear.

Keep in touch if you need more information

I know there is a folk club held at The Globe Hotel, Topsham, Nr Exeter on a Sunday evening as Mick Groves ex-Spinner plays there.

Being a resident in the beloved Devon I can point you in the direction of http://www.harbertonfolk.co.uk which is an amazing resource for all things folky in the South West, they run a 'club' in Totnes which attracts Fairport, Show Of Hands, Spiers and Boden... the big chaps in general.  Then there's The Globe in Topsham, The Kingsbridge Inn in Totnes, The Queens Head in Dartington, The Firehouse in Exeter and The Globe in Exeter... then there's also stuff in Ottery St. Mary, Bridgewater, Taunton, many places on the moors and occasional bits and piece done by The Phoenix, The Great Hall and The Civic Hall in Exeter...

If you really want pointing in the right direction when it comes to housing I'd go to Fullford's or Carden's as they're South West specialists, and jobs via the Express & Echo webiste, Western Morning News, or The Herald...

Is there anything musical going on in the Devon Cornwall area next weekend (1st July)? As we will be down at Pollperrow for a couple of days on TreacleSun.  Easy striking distance for Plymouth providing I am not drinking.  Ah just seen the problem with that! Roll Eyes

Hey Nick, I've been in Plymouth for a while now but had never heard of Harberton folk. What a really useful site to have. Thanks very much.

Hey Mark, I'm beginning to think you arrange your visits to the South West around my absences!!!!! We'll have to get together next time you're down. Sounds like you are quite a frequent visitor to these parts.
