Well, what do we expect? Public with attention span of a gnat and historical recall of less - every list of this kind tends to focus on what's happened in the last ten minutes anyway. There's Bowie from the 70s, a couple from the 80s and the rest are still in puberty or even younger if you pick Doherty. Right, I've had my Grumpy Old Man moment, I am going back to my cave and I am rolling a big stone in front of it. Harrumph. What, you want a list as well, do you? Here goes: Neil Young Robbie Robertson David Bowie Arthur Lee Bruce Springsteen Steve Hackett Steve Winwood Rory Gallagher Skip Spence Jim Morrison Pick the bones out of that.

As for me:
Curt Cobain Jimi Hendrix Angus Young Keith Richards Slash Robert Plant Paul Weller Michael Hutchence Eric Clapton Lou Reed
I know a couple may be a triumph of style over substance(s) but I think that is a big part of what makes a rock god.

All men in the lists so far, so my female list would be: Janis Joplin Debbie Harry Chrissie Hynde Suzi Quatro Courtney Love Siouxsie Sioux Tina Weymouth Joan Jett Belinda Carlisle (when she was in the Go-Gos) Cher (Ok I'm struggling a bit now) Cheers, Jackdaw, (and Sandy Denny ain't in the list simply because she transcends such things)
