Melodica as a "folk" instrument

Hi Simon,
I love the sound of the melodica (as on many reggae tunes) and just wondered whether you think it might have a place in the folk/roots arena - specifically as a melody instrument in a dance band.
Cheers

It was used by my predecessor, Rees Wesson, in Edward 2nd. But as you mention this was as a result of some of the reggae influences.
I can't see why it couldn't be used. But i would imagine that you would need mighty fine lungs to keep it going all night.

Ace!
Cheers Simon - & whose idea was it to cover "The Model"? IMHO, most Kraftwerk melodies lend themselves to reinterpretation - in the same way, dare I say it, that Beatles tunes do.

It was the idea of Mark (Rainbowchaser) Hutchinson, shortly after he joined the band. I think he thought we were mad and suggested this to check..........he was right.

off topic, I know... but Snakefinger did a cracking version of The Model - don't know if he played a melodica though
