I found these. They are a double CD of Fairport's Set at a wedding in the Netherlands and a DVD of the same, but of only highlights of the set and some stuff from the support act

This is the set from Koen & Renate's wedding and was sold only by them.  Out of respect for them, I wouldn't touch this set on ebay with a bargepole.

No doubt Koen will have soething to say when he sees this thread!

Each set is numbered.....if any member od eBay wishes to ask the seller a question, find out which number out of 50 it is.

Then we know whose it is / was!

Cheesy Seriously for a moment.

I wonder what the ethics would be if an artist deliberately limited the release of an album or dvd and then after it had sold out sold them one at a time on auction sites.

Sort of 'Fancy X a week on Saturday. A little skint. I know I'll sell a copy of product a on www. grabbersunited.whatever the last one went for £75!'

Probably wouldn't make enough to live on but could probably make enough over a year to make it worthwhile, fund a hobby etc. It could also be used to guage demand for a reissue etc.

Sort of Radiohead in reverse. I wonder how long they'd get away with it until somebody sussed what was going on. Then again the free market is open to manipulation.

It was there just now when I looked, 10 minutes to go and no bidders.

I didn't get to see it as it's been removed now. It must have been offered by someone I should know by name or is a member on this board or on the FC mailing list. There were only 50 made but the DVD version had even less copies. I forgot how much but if memory serves, around 20 outside of family/friends circle. Well, it's been removed anyway.

I didn't keep notes of which number went to whom though, so that wouldn't have been of much help.
What was the starting price by the way?

Er, are we talking the Ric Sanders Whenever CD or the Fairport Come Haste To The Wedding one?
Me, the latter, but Angela the former, to answer myself  Cool.

50 quid is a rather outrageous starting bid, on the other hand Whenever is a CD which I didn't really see again after it came out - it might be a price someone somewhere is willing to pay.
But to avoid confusion: the Whenever CD by Ric (recorded the year before he joined FC if I am not mistaken) is most certainly not a bootleg. The FC wedding CD on the Harry Productions label (Harry being our dog) is, albeit a very limited and authorized one and eBay ain't no place for it.

You're talking about the Come Haste to the Wedding....everybody else is talking about the Ric Sanders one.  At least, I think so...  Wink

I think everybody WAS talking about Come Haste. I don't think eBay cancelled the listing for the Ric Sanders one, its only offense is that the starting bid is sky high, which is why it's not selling I guess??

[checks again]

hang on, I see the original thread dates from March and NOW it's about the Whenever CD. I never saw the original thread back in March so that's why the Come Haste CD on eBay is news to me. The Whenever discussion is in the wrong topic. I assume Sir Martin was also responding to the Come Haste CD when he mentioned it was removed. Confusion, confusion.  Sleepy

The Whenever CD got a re-release not many moons ago, I believe. It is deleted now though, I understand. It'll never get a bid at that amount, though. My guess is that the shop selling it doesn't know his Fairport...
