It has long been a rule in TAW that "It's nice to be nice".

Conversely, it isn't nice to be nasty, sarcastic or demeaning to others. If you want to do that then Xitter and the like are available for you, should you wish. Such posts here will get deleted.

This isn't up for debate.

Thanks for reminding everyone.

It's only  very occasionally i feel like  a victim.  Some of it is down to  the nature of online conversation  , but not all  .

It kind of is, if a long-standing and much-loved member of this forum feels so aggrieved that they want to quit.

I didn't see anyone post anything egregious.

I am am not sure what prompted this as I rarely use this board now and haven't postesd since before Christmas, entirely due to the nastiness. I was particularly upset and shocked to receive a PM from a long standing lady poster who said that she was too scared to post here anymore. I contacted admin who refused to do anything without me outing and embarassing the lady in question. I also contacted someone who I normally like and respect and the reply was horrendous. After nearly 40 years on the trot Cropredy no longer appeals to me.

I have honestly never seen nastiness here. I've seen some sarcasm and some bitchiness, but nothing that has ever made me recoil. And I consider myself to be a sensitive person. I'm not denying the feelings of others, but I'm genuinely shocked that anyone thinks of TAW as being a nasty place, let alone that the comments of the board members would put anyone off going to Cropredy. Let's just say that my mileage varies.

Then why is a relatively strong female afraid to post? I must qualify my comments by saying they apply to "Fairporters " too , although you would expect it more from certain types of social media. I have now found what prompted this thread and must say that arent you just a little bit concerned? There is no way that I am sensitive (but I feel for those that are) , I used to post to football chatboards after all. No longer I'm afraid after being told to xxxx off down Stoke too many times!!

I don't know. I'd love to be educated further, but for justifiable privacy reasons, I'll never be any the wiser.

Not sure I understand this bit.

I'm concerned that Al feels upset enough to quit. I'm concerned that one of our number feels scared for reasons I don't comprehend. I'm not sure what else to be concerned about, because I don't have any more info. Genuinely scratching my head about all of this.

There are some people with very strong opinions here and they can be quite dogmatic, convinced they are right. I generally just scroll on by.
There is so much that is horrific happening in the world that we need to be considerate. Disagree with the opinion but don’t ’slag off’ the person. If you wouldn’t say something face to face, then don’t say it at all.

I try to approach social media with positive messages (e.g., glowing reviews of wonderful concerts on this site). For example, I don't give bad reviews to anyone on Yelp/Tripadvisor, etc., under any circumstances.

When I was younger, I contributed to some political sites where I tried to score points by being snarky. I gave that up cold turkey long ago, and have discovered that social media can be a safe place, particularly if I don't contribute any negativity.

I know I've not been on here for a day or two, but can somebody tell me what has happened? I haven't noticed any nastiness.
