When playing with more restraint (eg Sheltering Sky), Vai was very good.  I agree re Danny, to a point... but I thought he did a fine job on Monday, deffo not "just" a heavy rock drummer.

Does anybody know roughly how rare the withdrawn sleeve for Full House with Poor Will & The Jolly Hangman listed  ?
Tens ,a hundred or so , or more?
Also Poor Will features on some labels , I've only seen 2 of those in the last year , so I suspect this is rarer still

I suggest you get yourself to Discogs to work your way through all the different variants.  In general, I believe, the 'withdrawn sleeve' wasn't withdrawn at all, but just had a sticker placed over it, but obviously some got out without that.  And the honest truth/cliche is of course they're only worth what someone is prepared to pay for them....so condition etc. (and simply how well they are photographed and listed) will have a huge element to play here.  High tens would be my guess, but I'm no expect (I know more about the 8 track and cassette versions, mind)....

BEAT at the Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith last night. Sound was pretty good, first half was mainly the more obscure material from the Discipline, Beat and Three of a Perfect Pair albums, 20 minute break, then the more accessible pieces. I can appreciate how technically proficient Steve Vai is, but some of his (extremely) fast playing didn't, to me, seem to fit. I guess I was hoping for much more of the twin guitar "hocketing" that gave those albums the gamelan feel. Glad I went, but not blown away.

Clips/Recordings I've seen/heard confirm my opinion about the two non-Crimsons in the lineup.  Vai in particular is so wrong for this music (I know Fripp disagrees)...imho.  Danny is a great drummer, but BB is such a subtle drummer (from extreme power to pure delicacy in the blink of an eye).

For Roxy fans :  the long lost Quiet Sun  album is getting an official reissue.

Or anyone who is interested in Canterbury/ progressive music, really. The albùm has quite a reputation.

Excellent news!!

It's a brilliant album.  I've got the cassette Wink

I bought the original record on release - long since gone.....

We’re entering a new life phase now - I’m escorting my tween granddaughter to shows that she wants to see by artists I’ve barely or never heard of.

June - The Kevin Langue Show live taping at ACL Live. This is apparently a YouTube show of some sort.
September - Malcolm Todd at ACL Live. Never heard of him before. According to the Internet, he’s 22 and has released one album. I suspect he will promptly sell out the venue, which so many veteran performers fail to accomplish.
Also September - Bruno Mars at the Alamodome, San Antonio. That one I’m actually looking forward to.

I’m trying to keep an open mind here.

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit at the Bridgwater Hall. A great evening - two hours from a very fine band and a lot of great songs that never outstay their welcome.
