Title: Albion Band lyrics conundrum...
Post by: Dubai Danny on September 23, 2021, 01:33:03 AM
Would anyone happen to know the last line of the chorus of The Albion Band Is Here Again? It's got that muddy 70s production with the vocals mixed that little bit too far down.

I've managed to work out:

If you want to hop or rock or bop you are
Invited to until you nearly drop you are
Free to sing on the chorus or not you are
The music's [something something] very popular

TBH, the full lyrics would be great! There are bits and pieces in some of the verses that I just can't make out.

Tried asking Simon? He's very helpful, I find.

"commonplace" is the missing word, I think.
First song I ever saw them do (on the 'Light Shining' tour)!

I have a similar question about the refrain of Ashley's Brief Encounters (from By Gloucester Docks...).  Is it "... a three-star love..."?

You're right, Will. I just checked the lyric sheet in my copy of the LP.

Thanks!  It sounded like that, but has never really meant much to me.  I guess 'three-star' is meant to symbolise high quality?  Like an American 'three-star general'?

I'm sure it's - "The music's commonplace and very popular".

Our of interest, was anyone else at this line up's first gig in Brentwood Essex?

No, but I did see them many times and always enjoyed the interplay between the members. In my opinion they went down-hill a bit when Dave Whetstone and Jean-Pierre Rasle left, but then had another really good spell with the four-piece acoustic line-ups.

"Commonplace"! Thankyou!

I'd never have got that otherwise. It almost sounds like "drum and bass".

On the subject of Albion lyrics, I would love to have full lyrics to "Under the Rose" (original), my all-time favorite.
