Title: A couple of random questions...
Post by: Adam on November 22, 2020, 04:12:33 PM
A couple of random questions, for those who know more than me:

1. Is Ralph McTell’s ‘Michael in the Garden’ a sequel/reply to ‘Crazy Man Michael’?

2. Is the intro to ‘Adieu Adieu’ a homage/copy of the Who’s ‘Happy Jack’?

Just my Sunday afternoon musings...!

1. No, it’s about a young lad with autism whom they knew/was in the extended family. It was a very perceptive song for the time it was written

1. I think you need to flip the songs around to suggest it is a reply/sequel. Both songs are on albums released in December 1969, My Side of Your Window and Liege and Lief, but Ralph Mctell recorded his songs in August 1969, a few months before the October/November recording of Liege and Lief.

Sorry, I meant to specify that I was talking about Michael in the Garden

While either Michaels were in the garden and ranting and raving was Donovan’s Mad John in the allotment shed? And was this why Sandy’s crazy lad had the blues and Steve Ashley’s cynical Sam buried his head in the sand?
