Title: Harold Wells
Post by: JamesM on August 12, 2020, 09:09:37 PM
A rare post from me, but I can’t hold back. I’m on holiday in the Cotswolds and, by coincidence, found myself in The Black Horse in Cranham. Above the door is the news report of Gladys’ Leap, the leap in question being about a mile from the pub. I duly went on a little pilgrimage and found the sign, since when I’ve been humming Bird From the Mountain to myself. At the pub that day was a fantastic, very elderly gent enjoying the sunshine out the front of the pub. I went back today for a second meal (cracking, unspoilt pub - highly recommended) and the same gent was there again. Hearing the marvellous barman looking after the gentleman’s needs, it transpired his name is Harold. So to my question: is this possibly Harold Wells who spoke the intro to that self same song?

Would love to know if anyone can confirm!

Cheers
James

Definitely ask! Was Harold Wells the same elderly gent on the ‘It All Comes ‘Round Again’ intro? He sounds the same as that spoken word intro to Bird From The Mountain. Was always curious about that

Harold appears on the The Other Boot/Third Leg. Not sure without checking which year he came on to speak his intro...

I thought that Harold Wells was from Williamscot, and I've assumed he was no longer with us, but I have no definite knowledge of that.

He was indeed from Williamscot. If he's still alive, he must be a fair age...

I live not far from Cranham; next time I'm up that way, I must find the Leap, and visit the pub!
