Title: The Toast Must go on.
Post by: Field 7 is Heaven (Trev) on April 18, 2020, 10:46:38 AM
I would like to suggest that we all concoct an unusual Brew/Distillation and raise a glass as usual at 7-30 on Saturday 15th of August.

We could then either send a donation to the Teenage Cancer Trust directly or to a central point to send as a Talkawhile donation.

i read that in Freddie Mercury's voice.........

but yeah, great idea.  and by then we may be allowed out to share the nastiness with family and friends close by so we could all post photos!

I think that we can still raise a glass of 'something nasty' at the time.
At least this year I won't be standing on a fresh cow pat in a field... with a green face. (Me, not the field)
Perhaps some of us can be in contact with video links?

Not sure about numbers but 40 minutes is i think the time limit before there is a pay option.  Have used it to attend a remote art class now the physical one has been cancelled.

40 minutes, 100 people limit.

Conversations are difficult with more than 6 people, and need to be managed.

Suggestion.
Whoever proposes the toast can do it live on YouTube and everybody else can reply as a comment.

Why not have a proposer do it on You tube, and we respond by comment and add  a photo of the draft being drunk.

I've pointed Nev Bull who is putting the show together to the TAW post on this subject. I believe he has contacted someone there to take this further.

Best regards

It's all under control, thanks to Trev.

My suggestion is that we have somebody (hello Frog) do the toast and just have photos from previous ones as the video.

I will ask around as how best to do this. I do have a person who knows his way around a video editor, who owes me one.
We need somebody to do the speech.

Let's work this in stages:

First question. Is going with stills from previous posts a good idea?

The situation is that The Toast will be in the official festival stream at the normal time and we have until Friday to sort it out.

The plan is that it will be a two minute video, with still photos over the narration.

The initial plan:

Welcome to the TAW toast, by the Frog.

Then an explanation narrated by somebody. (We have ideas) Or photos starting with Ces, Swarb, Maart and Judy. Then photos of previous toast, including as many people as possible.

Then the toast 'Absent Friends' done by somebody who hasn't done it before.

Finally daughter of YaBB to link to donations to the Teenage Cancer trust.

Post by: YaBB Master (Colin) on August 02, 2020, 10:41:11 AM
It must be made very clear across all media that this isn't a strictly TAW event.

Although the roots are firmly with Ces and Swarb, it has expanded and is all about everybody's 'absent friends'.

Nobody needs to feel excluded just because they are new to this and at Cropredy passers by get dragged in.

We are on a really tight schedule here:

Images:

We are hoping to put together a sequence of images from previous toasts. Do you have anything?
Ideally these should feature groups of people, so that as many as possible will be included.
The photos once cropped must be in landscape format and at least 1920 x 1080 pixels.

If you have anything please PM Andy Leslie, for where to send them.

Audio:

This is the tricky one. We need somebody to write and record just under two minutes of audio. Outlining the origins of the toast. Who it's about, expanding into it being about everybody. Explain the people drinking awful concoctions. The toast 'Absent Friends' and link the the teenage cancer trust for donations.

If you can do that, please contact me.

This was a huge effort, but the files have now been sent. We'll see what happens next.

Andy and I split the photos. David Hughes did a short history of the toast and Jim proposes it.

I've included as many people as possible, but I'm sure there will be elements that won't please everybody.

Thanks for all the good wishes, i was, firstly, shocked and then delighted when Frog contacted me, in the middle of the night a couple of weeks ago, and asked me if i would do the toast.
I told him I was out of Mothers pride at the moment but would nip next door and cadge a couple of slices off Shiela first thing in morning!  He proceeded to calm me down and explained it was the TAW Cropredy toast that needed doing and that Colin would explain the technicalities in the cold light of day.
After a bit of tweaking the toast was done and despatched to TAW Central where David's piece and mine were transformed by el Supremo, Colin, with the judicious use of photographs from our resident Snapper supreme Andy Leslie, to whom many thanks are due.
I watched the whole thing on delay after my return to the dream home from the magical place that is Workington, on Saturday evening and enthusiastically demolished the best part of a bottle of rum during the proceedings.
Huge thanks also to Fairport themselves for hosting it all on their Yoochoob channel.
Fun as it was though, this must never happen again, and i hope every future toast takes place near the corner of the bar, where they belong.
Right, enough, I'm off to make an ostentatious contribution to the TCT and i strongly suggest that if you havent done it yourself yet you can join in all the fun of giving generously asap, it's good for the soul, go on, do it, NOW!😎

I shed a tear when I saw Gower Flower.... :'( a few more at the memories of all absent friends whom I've met at that bar and those I never got to meet. Thank you for organising it, it was wonderful. I recall viewing Jonah's Oak when his plaque was the only one on that tree.

Jim, I seem to recall you prefer Warburton's Toastie and not Muvva's Pride for toast?  ;)

Well done all and thank you. x
