Title: Swarb's bench
Post by: fstix (Michael) on May 19, 2019, 06:15:59 PM
Issy Swarbrick sadly reports on the Fairporters FB page that Swarb's bench has been smashed "to smithereens ', beyond repair. She says they know who did it and she'll be pressing charges. She is as upset as you would imagine, as is everyone else.

It would appear that funds have already been raised for a replacement...

That is so upsetting. I was also just reading about a model railway group who had set up an exhibition in a school, which had been smashed up by four youths. Years of work which could never be replaced.

What do people get from destroying precious things?

As I type, the bench fundraiser is at 688% of its target.  :)

I assume you mean the vandalism, not the fundraising...

Vandalism is on the up - in Barry one of the parks was landscaped recently and new trees planted - 3/4 of them were irreparably damaged in one evening by kids. I despair at this need to destroy. I never did it, and I was a punk!  ???

Last I heard the fund was up into the £000's to purchase a new bench. Good kind hearts have prevailed I reckon.

Worth keeping the excess in case it happens again....  :-\

Did his daughter press charges against the vandals? Mind you, they would probably only get a caution for a first offence with no physical victim harm.

I saw a newspaper story that said it was to be replaced by a custom-made wrought iron bench which, as well as being sturdy, will use up much of the donations due to the cost of such things.
