I am slightly irritated by this. Partly because it is yet another set of deluxe boxed sets in an already overcrowded season but mostly because the only way to get the rare stuff on CD is to buy the box which includes six discs which I have perfectly reasonable copies of already (the three most recent albums), whereas they are a stand alone release on vinyl.  >:(

Does the vinyl come with a download/CD?

Even for the wonderful Kate, it's not worth it, really.
I've got all the albums on CD too, and up to and including Hounds Of Love on vinyl, and had the same problem with the previous This Woman's Work box, which came out between The Sensual World and The Red Shoes, and included two discs of rarities :

This Woman's Work Volume One

7-1 The Empty Bullring 2:16

7-2 Ran Tan Waltz 2:41

7-3 Passing Through Air 2:05

7-4 December Will Be Magic Again 4:51

7-5 Warm And Soothing 2:43

7-6 Lord Of The Reedy River 2:42

7-7 Ne T'en Fui Pas 2:33

7-8 Un Baiser D'Enfant 3:02

7-9 Under The Ivy 2:10

7-10 Burning Bridge 4:42

7-11 My Lagan Love 2:30

7-12 The Handsome Cabin Boy 3:12

7-13 Not This Time 3:40

7-14 Walk Straight Down The Middle 3:50

7-15 Be Kind To My Mistakes 3:03

This Woman's Work Volume Two

8-1 I'm Still Waiting 4:28

8-2 Ken 3:49

8-3 One Last Look Around The House Before We Go... 1:04

8-4 Wuthering Heights (New Vocal) 4:58

8-5 Experiment IV 4:22

8-6 Them Heavy People (Live) 4:08

8-7 Don't Push Your Foot On The Heartbrake (Live) 3:39

8-8 James And The Cold Gun (Live) 6:25

8-9 L'amour Looks Something Like You (Live) 2:44

8-10 Running Up That Hill 5:46

8-11 Cloudbusting (The Organon Mix) 6:33

8-12 Hounds Of Love (Alternative) 3:48

8-13 The Big Sky (Meteorological Mix) 7:45

8-14 Experiment IV (12" Mix) 6:37

I already had a lot of those tracks on vinyl singles, and the CD albums were the exact same ones I already had, so I gave it a miss then, and I'll give it a miss this time, because looking at that track listing now, I can't see myself ever thinking 'I must listen to the Organon mix of Cloudbusting when I get home' after a long night at work. Remastered or not. Even if the rarities were released as a stand alone 2 disc set. (Sorry Kate, still love you, though.xx)  :)

Does the vinyl come with a download/CD?

Nothing to indicate that so far. I am very much doubting a CD but hopeful for a download code. I have provisionally ordered vinyl box set 4 on that basis but may yet change my mind.

Annoyingly, some b-sides are missing anyway. The albums are being released separately so I think I'll get one at a time and stop when it gets to The Red Shoes.

Same with concert tickets now.  It's all about getting the well-heeled, middle-aged middle classes to cough up.  That's where the money is.  The end times of the music business (as was) getting the last money they can get out of the people who still care about albums.

Depending on ones view of the cost of vinyl albums in the somewhat fetishistic market they now occupy, the vinyl boxes don't seem overly extortionate (given the going rate for a single vinyl album is around £20 these days) but it is still a lot of money for anyone who wants all of them.

And I guess that £95 for 9 CDs in a nice presentation box and deluxe packaging is not, on the face of it, ridiculous either, though it should probably be £15 cheaper than that. My problem with it is that three of those discs were originally issued just three years ago and have not been remastered for this set. It is cynical to package up the rarities discs with material that has been issued so recently. I'd have had slightly less of an issue if they had been packaged with the first 7 albums. At least they have been remastered.

All sorts of interesting chicanery around these sets.

When the first batch appeared, the downloads were configured like the vinyl boxes. It therefore seemed likely that vinyl box 4, the rare stuff, would have a corresponding download set.

When CD box 2 & vinyl boxes 3 & 4 appeared on Friday, no download set for box 4 accompanied them. Seemingly therefore there was an exclusivity deal that to get the rare stuff you had to buy either CD box 2 with 7 additional discs of stuff you may not want or vinyl box 4.

On the assumption that a download set would be available, I had cancelled my order for the vinyl (to save a bit of money). When it didn't appear, I was "forced" to reconsider and actually got a good deal on CD box 2 from Amazon Italy for £73 delivered, more than £20 cheaper than the UK price. Now, today, out of nowhere, box 4 has suddenly appeared for download. Very fishy.

Ultimately I don't really mind. I got the set for a good price and would have had to pay about £40 for downloads of box 4 and Aerial, from which the vocal contributions of Rolf Harris have (controversially?) been removed from the new remaster. I think that was the right decision personally.

Does it include Kate's contribution to the title track of Big Country's album The Seer?

I came very close to forking out the £100 for the second box set in order to obtain all the extras, but managed to talk myself out of it
I now see that these tracks are now being released as a separate set at the rather decent price of £20 for four discs.
Great news for me but I would have been livid if I had bought the whole set!

I did buy the whole set (Box 2) but fortunately I got a very good deal from one of the European Amazons for under £60. As I also wanted the new "amended" version of Aerial too, which was a £15 purchase in its own right at the time this did not seem so bad. Nevertheless I am stuck with superfluous duplicates of Director's Cut, 50 Words For Snow & the live album so my sentiments above still apply. This is a bit naughty from Kate.

Nevertheless I shall hold out hope that McCartney does something similar with the Wings Live 72 set from his recent huge box as I wasn't prepared to shell out for that one.
