Title: Cropredy W36th3r
Post by: Bridgwit (Bridget) on August 06, 2018, 12:59:28 PM
I believe it's now acceptable to start using the "w" word. The forecast:

Thursday:   sunny, warm, nice to sit outside and listen to music whilst having a few drinks
Friday:        sunny, warm, nice to sit outside and listen to music whilst having a few drinks
Saturday:   drizzly, warm, nice to sit outside in a cagoule and listen to music whilst having a few drinks
Sunday:      cloudy, warm, nice to pack up and go home whilst reminiscing about sitting outside and listen to music whilst having a few drinks

Love it. What ever the weather. Can't change it. It is what it is.

Ps I had to laugh at the subject title Bridwit, very clever. I though you had a typing problem   :)

Exactly. We won't dissolve if it gets a bit wet.

Could you arrange for the driver of the BMW that pulled out right in front of me - ignoring a red light! - to be given W4NKA...

Keeping all digits crossed for the weather for the next few days.

Sorry folks, you are in for a wet day until about 7pm.

If it is any consolation, tomorrow should be dry but then really wet on Sunday.

Really grim now! My own fault for lack of wet weather gear, but back to the Premier Inn for a few hours to thaw/dry off....

When you can actually see the rain falling in a photo, that's proper rain.

Weather was a real downer but the amazing sight of the weather front passing over the arena field leaving one half with blue sky and no rain whilst it was still grey and raining on the other side of the field was quite a sight. Mind you I just wish people with the brollies the size off small country wouldn’t stand half way up the field blocking the view for a huge swathe of people behind!

Living in Wales, I should be used to changeable weather, but it still amazes me that I can be sat boiling and sunning myself at lunchtime and freezing and wet by teatime!

What really brasses me off is those people who completely swathe themselves and their chairs with waterproofs and then put up a brolly as well, blocking off everyone else’s view. There is a place reserved for them in Room 101.

Just accept Cropredy has it's own micro climate and get on with it. It will be the same next year.

Sue did that. Someone came over and had a real go at her about it (despite the fact that the field was a sea of brollies at that point.) You'll be pleased to hear that it really upset her and spoiled her day.

If it’s as wet as it was, you need the brolly too. Some ‘waterproofs’ aren’t  as good as others. Despite my good quality, I thought, ones, I would have been drenched without the brolly.

But consider that one brolly can spoil the view for 2 or 3 people.  I do think that when it rains more than brief showers an everyone for themselves mentality takes over a lot of people - so by making themselves more comfortable they are making things worse for several others, something they maybe wouldn't dream of doing .in fairer weather

It’s partly the one stage nature of Cropredy. If you know you’re going to be in the same place all day then you’re going to want to make yourself as comfortable (and dry) as possible. See also; groundsheets/blankets, chairs and flags.

On the plus side, I have come up with a failsafe scheme to enable one to see the stage in the event of brolly blockage. It's called 'standing up'.

Although I've had people telling me off for doing that as well.

That’s ok, but then you sit down in a puddle in your chair...  I had to change my knickers twice over the weekend when they got soaked!

Hahahahahaha

I don’t have a problem with brollies. Most people pull them as low as possible and the side screens have made viewing very easy.

A lot more people would have left the field without them. People were also pretty sharp at putting them away when the rain stopped.

Brollies, essential kit!

Are there any fest suitable chairs that enable rain to drain off and not make puddles?  :-\

You've given me an idea there: canvas chairs with a number of eyelets set into the seat to allow water to drain out. Also handy if drinks are spilled or in the event of unfortunate bladder events.  You'd probably end up with yer bum looking like you have a tropical disease, mind...  ;)

Yes I was wondering about using a soldering iron to burn a hole that seals the edges hopefully preventing a further tear.

You can buy an eyelet hole punch kit for under £10 on Amazon/eBay etc.
