Title: What's the best thing about Cropredy?
Post by: Bridgwit (Bridget) on July 30, 2018, 02:54:47 PM
Time to start meaningless threads!!

For me, the best thing about Cropredy is being off work for 4 days and feeling totally chilled with a pint, a good book and some great music. I'll book a massage, eat a Leon's and people-watch  {:-)

What's your best bit - what do you most look forward to?

Great thread idea!

For the last 14 years it has been pretty much the same for me - relaxing in the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside with good company, good music, good (read: indulgent/naughty) food (Leon's, Oggie Pasties, Fat Franks, the delicious Greek wraps etc) and plenty of 6X/ Fairport Five & Old Rosie...!

This year we will only manage the Saturday as we'll be at Cropredy for the first year as  responsible(!) parents of our 9 month old boy. The first of many to come for the little fella (although technically he came last year as well 'on the inside' so to speak...!)

Yes, that would have summed it up for me too. Unfortunately after 20 odd years I stopped feeling chilled and started feeling apprehensive, anxious and overwhelmed by it but that is entirely my problem and not the fault of the festival.

I used to look forward to going back to nature for a weekend and being at one with the earth. Now I look forward to going back to my house and being at one with the telly.  ::)

I'm the same as Chris. It's the only time each year that I get to meet up with some peeps face to face. It's also a time when my son his wife and in laws are all in the same place as us and we get time together  as a united family  :)

We live in Cropredy, and now have an extended family of friends who stay with us .
They really have become as family.

We make a week of the whole event, it's a real privilege to have simply the best festival located here.

looking forward to seeing You all here, and My first oggie.

Knowing ( usually) it will always happen, no matter what life throws.

Total escape from day-to-day life. Time with family and friends from J’s side (whom we only really see there)...it always feels like we have never been apart.

Time together, just the two of us, on walks to the village or strolls round the stalls.

Delicious food, beautiful music. The man at  the earring stall, who always recognises my last year’s earrings and asks me “How are my earrings doing?”. Arteangel Shineys, where it has become a bit of a tradition for J to get me a little gift. ❤️  My little bird and heart will be with my in the room where I shall be staying and I will be reading your posts ( Jim, you always do a few on the days...make sure you do!!)

Will be there in spirit....Can’t wait til 2019!

( Sorry..can’t just choose one!)

The first get together at the Pav on Thursday lunch time, knowing that we have the whole weekend of friends and music ahead of us...  just wonderful!

Tuesday ...........setting up in Bridge Meadow,

Wednesday .......eating in a still quiet Brasenose, before seeing the bands there and up at the Lion

Thursday ..........seeing everyone at the Pavillion, then buying my shirt

Friday ..............Walking the towpath to breakfast at the school and seeing the scarecrows/Bears/fairies in the gardens on the way back

Saturday...........waving clean hankies to RD,the Toast, shedding tears to MOTL.

Sunday ............absolutely nothing as an empty feeling overwhelmes, as we drive off and realise that the countdown to the next one begins

First - It's the moment my ancient transport makes it there.  ;D
Then - All set up, time to head for the pavilion.  :D
Next - The TAW server crashes.  :P

Meet up with our chums in Wardington, proceed to camp site.  Pitch tents & fly our flag.  Open a magnum of bubbly and toast the weekend ahead.  I've attended all Croppers since '83 and despite my mature years I still feel like a kid waiting for Xmas around this time.  A weekend of music, Oggies and cider, what's not to like  :)

I am curious and would like more detail on Colin's ancient transport  :o   It's not a little Deuce Coupe is it??

It's a 15 year old (14th Cropredy) Citroen Berlingo with 130K miles on it. 'The Car' in this household  is Lady YaBB's car.

The man who fixes it says it's fine. I am not so sure about the clutch. Still, once all the trim falls off, Citroen's seem to run forever.

Too many specifics to list. Just being there, letting it happen and collecting another year of memories.

Weve been coming for the past 23 years now, 18 as punters and 5 as press. We will never stop as long as we are able to as for us its an amazing place to goto and meet up with bestie mates. The music is secondary and we will always find something we like or head into the village for the fringe.

We do loads of festivals and croppers is the best for us :-)
