Not keen to repeat the experience. However, they were followed on by Lindisfarne who played hit after hit for over two hours and really rocked the place up.

The Cure                                They would eat the field and spit it out live. A show as energetic as Alice's

Kaiser Chiefs                           Allerton Bywater is a quiet ex pit village , how it produced these guys???

It's just a bit of fun.

The headliners don't always go on last.
If the top turn is acoustic, they can go on before something boisterous to finish the day.

And I think Kate R will precede the Levellers too

I saw Calan last year and they'very noticeably grown and matured as a band since their set a few years ago at Cropredy.  I think they'd make an excellent choice for a return visit.

Knopfler, Lindisfarne and Amy McDonald all get my vote. If I was actually going - which, unfortunately, is not very likely at the moment - I'd also like to see William the Conqueror (Ruarri Joseph's current trio) and the wonderful Ange Hardy

Given the acts already announced, I can't imagine there's much left in the budget. Maybe one more biggish name for the Thursday headliner (although I'm braced for disappointment there), plus a number of lesser known (i.e. cheaper) acts. There's usually some sort of rock/blues band somewhere, plus I imagine we'll have a scratch Sandy Denny tribute. Add a couple of singer songwriters and that's your lot.

Having said all that, I'd be chuffed to be proved completely wrong if the following were announced:

Cropredy Festival is  a get together of lovely people  no matter what.... for me anyhow xx

Well yes it does matter. I've never had a bad Cropredy, but the music makes the difference between just another enjoyable Cropredy and a fantastic Cropredy that Mr Bridgwit and I will talk about for years to come. Last year we didn't consider the line-up particularly good, but Trevor Horn's band blew us away and kept us on a high all weekend. A few years ago it was Paul Carrack. One year it was a Ska band at the Red Lion!

I'll be honest and say there's nothing on the line-up this year that particularly inspires me, but I'm always hopeful and I will thoroughly enjoy myself anyway. See you at the Cricket Club!  :D

Id Love to see Gandalf Murphy at Cropredy if some arrangement could be made with Jim Driver ;D

Exactly. I wasn't putting them forward as Thursday headliners, just as a band I'd like to see at Cropredy. I'd like to think FC could book some good reggae for an afternoon slot. Wobble's Invaders of the Heart are pretty damn good in concert, too.

I'm not a Cropredy person so don't look at these threads much, but I can't help but say - -Camel?? @ Cropredy?  Get Gentle Giant on and I might even go  (For the first time).

Yes and yes - probably not headline acts but both bands would make me happy :)

I've been suggesting Camel for Cropredy for a few years now. Still hoping!

Quite enjoyed that, even if a lot of the rest of it was a bit dull, RT excepted of course. Some nice pedal steel from Chris Hilllman, who's been touring with The Travelling Band and Billy Bragg over the last couple of years.

Robert Vincent was great on the Old Grey Whistle test, but having watched it again , how good were the band playing with him.

Was that Beth Nielsen Chapman backing vocals?

Who was the drummer in the fur hat and the excellent rest. Her band I suspect? Anyone know.

It's more likely than Gentle Giant - Camel are still touring - and are active this summer...GG haven't played together since 1980!

That's accurate, but a bit disingenuous at the same time as Three Friends (who play Gentle Giant music and feature Gentle Giant members) have been out on the circuit in recent years, at least until Gary Green had a nasty heart attack (2015 ish?)

DreadZone! Had a poor slot last time at Cropredy. They need an evening to get everyone buzzing.

So if someone does badly one year playing down the bill, invite  them back to see if they'll do better higher up the bill? With respect I see some flaws in your strategy...

They were absolutely outstanding the first time they played (2009?).  The crowd was buzzing.  What happened last time, then?

I was about to ask exactly the same.. they were great!

They didn't do badly. They had an afternoon slot where the crowd were wandering around, getting food etc. I think Dread Zone had another gig later to get to. I meant their time slot was all wrong for them. They need an evening slot. They know how to get the crowd going, and even those who are not familiar with them cant resist the beat!

RT & Electric Trio are in the area....I know *he* said he'd only play every 5 years, but maybe he's changed his mind?.....

The reason he's not yet announced - because he's playing (again, this time as a trio) Gawsworth Hall on the Wednesday before (8th) - £32.50 is good value, I think - BUT they have contracted him not to announce any other date that week within x miles until Gawsworth have sold their tickets which have only just gone on sale - so maybe an announcement at the middle of April/start of May? I personally think that's quite a likely scenario.

By the end of the first number I was in the pit disgracing myself with what an obese 60 something hopes to call dancing.

THEY WERE BRILLIANT.

i spent the rest of the weekend shouting "Ahoy" to everyone after one of the songs.

Dreadzone were great the first time, but when I bought a live album of theirs, Live at Sunrise I was disappointed to hear exactly the same set. Bit of a one-trick pony, I thought.

A bit like seeing the Reduced Shakespeare Company for the second time, when you realise all the "ad-libs" are carefully scripted.

Also, in the five years between their Cropredy appearances, their personnel changed somewhat. As with Hayseed Dixie, the replacements didn't live up to their predecessors. IMHO, of course.

But a WOW has been promised

On their previous visit they played in the late afternoon, if I remember correctly, and they were great

The line up was exactly the same. Spee, Leo, Greg and Chris. Not sure who was on the PC/DJ duties for 2015 but the rest was the same band.

I was thinking there'd been barely any changes too...In 2012, "James 'Bazil' Bainbridge joined the group replacing Chris Oldfield though"... that's the only one I can find online.

It better not be Dumpy..I got to know him a few years ago, and he needed a bassist, I was going to audition but tripped up the stairs and dislocated two fingers, so that was that. I can cope with not being a rusty nut, but not headlining Cropredy ?  :'(  :(  >:(

Well, I have gone for The Fratellis in the poll, simply because it would be so typically Cropredy. Lots of speculation, 'Wow' hints, everyone getting very excited, and then in the end a bit of a let down. They have a new album out, are doing other festivals, fit with the Scottish link, and wouldn't be too expensive.

Personally I think they'd be great, but I imagine I'd be in a minority!

No I’m with you there....yes the name may disappoint some but as a headliner for Thursday who will send they crowd home singing, I too think they would be great  :)

Having watched the clip on YouTube of Mr Daltrey doing Baba O’Reilly last year, he’s now rapidly rising to the top of my list
