Hi, I'm pretty much a newbie here, but if you can find a reasonable midi file of Sylvia online, it should be possible to split the different instruments in the file onto different tracks ("Dissolve Part" in Cubase) and view the Sax score in the score editor of your sequencer. It should give you the rough score at least.

This is a Freebie midi file I found, but have no idea how accurately it's been transposed.

Dunno if this helps any?

Sibelius will convert MIDI files to sheet music, and it will preserve all the parts.

Good point, I forgot about Sibelius. Have never used it myself, as I've never seen the point in forking out hundreds of quid when the score editor in my sequencer is adequate for most stuff.

Looks like a nice bit of software if you do lots score writing though. The demo version may be OK for helping Olly out, though it does look like the save is completely disabled so you only get the one go at it.

The demo disables save, and only allows you to print out the first page, which has a prominent watermark.

Olly should be able to get the student version, which will save quite a bit.

I find it invaluabe for arranging music, in particular if it contains transpossing instruments, as I don't transpose in my head.

You can get a guitar version called G7 which is cheaper, and gives you some additional tools for guitaists, like a picture of where to put your fingers.

you can always cheat the demo by looking at every page individually, doing a screenshot as a jpg, making it the right size then printing it out. My school taught me that.

There's always a way to cheat the demos!

That was great, it started with "why not use the old ear method" and went on to "to split the different instruments in the file onto different tracks ("Dissolve Part" in Cubase) and view the Sax score in the score editor of your sequencer."

I love this board. Anyone fancy a beer? Happy bank hollibobs!!!!!!

Really LOL!  Nearly had half a pint of cider in the workings of the laptop.  Thanks Red Shoes, That's FANTASTIC - and likely accurate too - I LOVE IT! :-)
