Title: Peter Knight calling
Post by: Peter Knight on August 19, 2007, 09:55:01 AM
Hi there,

Mainly due to the degree of interest shown via this Forum in Steeleye Span's inaugural Festival 'Spanfest', we have been offered our own 'arena' on the Talkawhile site.  It will be good to be part of such a vibrant and lively Forum, and hope that over the coming Months and Years our projects (both Steeleye and non-Steeleye related) will give rise to some stimulating exchanges! I shall follow them all with interest  :)

So, thanks to Colin and the rest of the Team for the invitation, and special thanks to all those whose many and varied comments surrounding 'Spanfest' opened this window of opportunity.......

Best Wishes,

Peter.

...something else for me to get addicted to.   ::)

I'm giving this new Steeleye bit a good plug amongst my fellow devotees of Maddy's courses at Stones Barn, so hopefully a few more new faces will find their way over here and join us.

Good to see you here, Peter.  Looking forward to seeing you here when you drop by.  :)

Peter, can I ask a quick question. I read somewhere that around 75/76, Steeleye, or at least some of Steeleye, were in fact the Wombles, in that you dressed up as them on TOTP. Can you clarify this, as it has been bugging me for a while. Cheers  :)

Ollie

I think we might need a Steeleye trivia thread!

Peter has agreed in principle to guest in Talk Awhile - it might be an idea to save questions until then  :D

Hi Ollie!

As Chris has already mentioned, it is true that in the 'All Around Mike Batt' days Peter did dress up as a Womble.

I have just asked Peter which one, but he can't remember although he thinks that it was a 'bloke' Womble  :).......possibly Uncle Bulgaria. Rick and Nigel were also recruited and possibly Bob, although Peter is not 100% sure about this.

It was just a one-off appearance for TOTP.

All the best,

Deborah.

I'd just like to say I didn't like the Wombles before but now I know they are really just an offshoot of Steeleye, I'm looking forward to a Wombling Merry Gaudete

They wern't the originals though. It is a well known fact that Chris Spedding was the Wombles first guitarist.

I missed it :(  I had a nightmare journey that year, car broke down twice and I eventually abandoned it and got the train...  I was just putting my tent up during the encores :(

Oh goody a steeleye thread!
Im a big fan and have grown up on steeleye span music, they are also largely to blame for me meeting my fiancee (getting married next year, and yes.. there will be a hefty number of steeleye songs on the music list for the reception)

Anyhow, enough gushing :-)

Hi everyone by the way, im a newb :-)

A point maybe worth noting is that Mike Batt who was one of the original Wombles also produced several of Steeleye's albums and there is the link  ;)

To have a real steeleye thread, awesome. After all the past years there will  always be things to discuss. For instance i recently asked Peter a question that i,d wanted to knowthe answer to for years.Namely , is your violin the original one,the answer was no, he had several over the years some had been stolen some had been broken. By the way ,welcome to Log [lois] happy posting.

I'm still grinning from ear to ear, since finding this forum a few days ago, finally, after so many years not knowing it even existed.
