Post by: steveb on October 09, 2005, 03:01:12 AM
Tuesday 11th Oct at 8.30pm 'Walking On A Wire', documentary about RT on Radio 2.  Programme includes interviews with Joe Boyd, Linda T and SN, should be interesting.

I've been advised that it should be on 'Listen Again' for 7 days....listen at your pleasure in that time.

If you didn't hear it - go to Listen Again on the BBC website where it stays for 7 days. Some interesting stuff, especially from Mitchell Froom.

Two questions:
1. Has "Daddy is a Mummy" been heard before?

2. Did Linda really take all her clothes off and throw herself into the audience on the US Shoot Out the Lights tour - or was she exaggerating to make a point?

I recorded it myself, but would like to point someone else to it. I can't find it on Listen Again. Any clues?

There are various Listen Again buttons available - go to 'Documentaries, via the Radio 2 page - but none of them yet work....

It's here, Maart -

but the listen again facility doesn't appear to have been activated yet.

My Daddy is a Mummy has been around for a good few years.
Didn't Richard play it at Cropredy in 1999 and on his tour in 2000?

Good show, didn't know much about Richard up till last night, didn't realise he was a Sufi Muslim (is he still?)

I like those programs where the subject does lots of demonstrations of technique in the studio, could have been a bit more but I suppose there's lots to fit into an hour, and it was good to hear lots of emphasis on Fairport - but what about Sloth? Surely RT at his best.

Ah well, can't have everything  :)

He's still a Muslim, but he said in a Q&A some months back that he was somewhat more 'relaxed' about it now. So the short answer must be 'no' to Sufism, as that form is rather strict.

I heard the last half hour driving home from work

can't wait to hear the first bit

always though he was a bit of a dry old stick but some of the things he said made me think again.

never a huge fan, but always enjoy his music, so much understated talent.

I feel a cd buying spree coming on

Just heard it on Playback. Good, well balanced stuff. Just learnt he was the first vegetarian in FC, well ahead of Ric!

I wouldn't be surprised if there were more during the late 60s. And Simon is very much into peace and love, so maybe he wasn't the first.

Good grief!  The former Mrs T was rather controversial!

All that folk club stuff? The horror! The horror!  :o

Didn't think much of happy-clappy songs. Which is to be applauded.

I honestly don't know - I think I'll have to Listen Again.

I thought she referred to him as Sheik-something-something else.....

Ah well, can't have everything  :)

Quote from Scottish Sunday Herald 31st July 2005

"Thompson no longer practises Sufism, finding its demands at odds with his first love of music. “At a certain point I wanted to get back to having a musical career,” he admits, “So it’s on the back burner these days. But I’m still a practising Muslim.”
