It would be amazing for Steeleye Span to come along with their original line-up and maybe even Martin Carthy! Fairport supported by Steeleye Span would be my idea of heaven!!

Why start on 2007 when we are still suggesting artists for 2006? ??? ???

It's highly unlikely that anyone picked for 2006 would also appear in 2007 - so that ought to cut down the number of suggestions.

Slightly pointless thread, unless I'm missing the point? ???

Get you...

I'm NOT going to Cropredy 2006 but I will be there in 2007 for the 40th Anniversary, so it's of intertest to me. Plenty of other places where peoople have already and will over the next ten months predict 2006 line ups...

So a tiniest dash of irony... but - as you so pompously say - pointless! NOT TO ME IT AIN'T SUGAR!

And every spin off act too  ;D

Good point, Keith. Probably the last major anniversary that this line-up (and the past members) will want to play a 3-hour plus gig....

Let's have Ashley back doing the 'History of' again - it's a full 10 years since he last did it, and there'll be many that haven't heard it. It can be updated too.

Just to clear up something Chris seemed to imply earlier....The Eighteenth Day of May is "my" band and has nothing to do with Mister O'Diamonds ;)
(but if you're reading this Jack, we've a gig on the 22nd and you're welcome to roadie for us.... ;) ;)).

For the record, I kinda think Cropredy 2007 IS worth getting excited about - but the idea that it may be the last chance for the full supporting cast of ex- and present  Fairports to reunite for a full set is a bit of a sobering thought. So.....I'd hope for a triumphant return of the Swarb  in 2006 and the whole gang (Ian Matthews, Jude, RT, Ashley Hutchings, DM, Jerry Donahue etc etc) in 2007....

.....But PLEASE, no return for The Hamsters :-[. If we're gonna have a pub rock band howzabout the mighty GPs?

Originally Swarb's band.. with Chris L, Kevin D and Martin Jenkins...  til about 1990 (?) when Swarb left and they continued as a trio until the end of 1994.

The fourpiece produced three studio albums..  Promises, Tsubo and Fortune; whilst the trio produced one, Stories... all wonderful!!!

Not only that, but on CUYUGA's website, FC are top of the list of bands mentioned that they have supported.

Embarrassed to admit I hadn't heard of them but will correct that deficiency with a CD purchase :)

Don't be embarrassed, nobody's heard of us. ;) As far as a cd purchase is concerned, well sorry, you might have to wait for that one. We plan on going into the studio in Oct. or Nov. for a new cd. We have done stuff in the past but with lineup changes & that, we have a very different sound now compared to back then. Now that our line-up has been the same for a couple years & have plenty of new songs written we'll have another go at recording.
As far as Cropredy, definitely would be a dream come true, not only to go, but to play and be in ENGLAND? Too much for words.

So at least one of the criteria for getting on the bill is "having already supported Fairport"??? That should inspire a thoroughly innovative approach to the whole show!

Vibrant little thread despite its crass irrelevance... he he he

Suggest you send your CD to Peggy when it comes out and get a UK tour organised. Post on here as well so we can all buy it. Good luck.

Not quite - but the band do need to have seen you 'in action', and that's definitely one way of getting their attention!

My Dream list for a cropredy festival would include,

Fairport
Steeleye Span
Jethro Tull
Pentangle
Tannerhill Weavers
Martin Carthy
Ashley Huchings , Albion Band, original line ups
Led Zep

There again it would be real nice to have the likes of

Deep Purple
Black Sabbath
Iron Maiden
Uriah Heep

I'magine Fairport Headlining that lot 8)

It was the thought of False folk music from the likes of the Spinners...lol

Actually the Detroit spinners are not such a bad idea.

You've not by any chance heard the New Quo album, its hardly a quo record, more folkie than Boogie woogie, if you ask me...

Perhaps someone ought to ask the Quo along to Cropredy.

Just been listening to a recent live Quo set from Swedish radio & it's not bad.

Go to:

and click on "Lyssna till senaste P4 Live" on the left.

Reckon they'd do a decent job of Thurs or Friday night.

The 1972 set would make me very happy, though Heavy Traffic was a reamergence of how good they could be. The new album is growing on me too.

But that's by the by.

Margarita was certainly the slippery slope & was only recovered from in 2002 with Heavy Traffic, as I've already mentioned.
