Title: choice of songs Post by: Neil on January 18, 2005, 01:56:12 AM Hello Maart
Thanks for answering all the questions so far but don't go I have a few. Considering the amount of time you were in Fairport were there any songs you would like to have seen in the set list that never made it? Also what was the process for choosing the tunes/songs played? How did you find all those trad tunes? Which album that you have been involved in are you most proud of? Which lineup would you have liked to have gone back in time to be part of? You may have answered some of these already but what the heck. I tried a few times to get a traditional song, Clyde Waters, into the repertoire but for some reason it never got through. Maybe I’ll do it on my next album. Also what was the process for choosing the tunes/songs played? We all used to go to Woodworm with our suggestions and we’d all listen to them all and take notes. Then we’d make demos of the stuff and most of what we demoed made it onto the albums. There were some great songs which we only played once, on the album, and never made it into the live set. Obviously people want Matty Groves etc. If I had a pound for every time I played Matty – oh, hang on a minute, I did! How did you find all those trad tunes? Research. There are a lot of books out there in the folksong section of the library, 781 or 782. A lot of songs from Jewel In The Crown and later came from a book of Newfoundland songs! Which album that you have been involved in are you most proud of? Jewel In The Crown. Which lineup would you have liked to have gone back in time to be part of? I would have liked to play with Sandy and Richard.
