Maart you learned to speak Welsh a while ago..  have you kept it up?  Have you found it difficult to learn?  Has it presented you with many advantages living there?

Hi Jenny

Yes, I studied Welsh at Coleg Harlech in 2001-2002. I had a fantastic tutor, Gwynne Wheldon Evans, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Ten hours a week plus homework. I passed my exams and felt confident. Unfortunately (well, quite fortunately for me) I have been working and travelling a lot since then and my Welsh has got rather rusty.

This last week I’ve been working at Sain studio near Caernarfon where most of the people have Welsh as a first language, so once again I was in a situation where I felt confident to use my fourth language. Strange it should be my fourth, as it’s my nearest foreign language, being from Manchester originally, o Fanceinion yn wreiddiol. I like to think that using my limited understanding of Welsh at Sain helped me to become integrated quicker and we could then get on with the job. I love languages and French and German hold no fears for me. I’ve even been able to find the German humour. It does exist and is great. It’s not bad it’s just different as Kieran sings. I’ve been able to make a couple of gags in Wenglish this week…
