Title: Youtube (music) clips of interest
Post by: davidmjs on May 23, 2025, 11:13:35 AM
A lovely 1972 recording of the String Band on French TV which firmly puts a lie to all those who state their time was done a couple of years earlier.

Robin speaking more than passable French...

Here's a couple of YouTube tips.

With most browsers, if you add a full stop after "YouTube.com" in the URL, adverts disappear.

Try it. It saves a lot of annoyance.

Here's another: remove "ube" from "YouTube" in the URL and you will be offered a download of the video you are watching.

For better quality you need to pay, but for most purposes the lower quality may well be ok.

Caveat: I haven't worked out how to do either on a phone using the app.

This is priceless info. How long have you known this stuff?

This is officially the greatest thing I've ever heard.  I am chuckling to myself.  How does it even work? ;D

Here's a Planxty performance from 1979, courtesy of a link from Sir Norm.

I've known about these tips for a while, not sure how long.

The Yout.com tip works because it's a separate site to YouTube.

That's odd, I just tried posting this but it disappeared. Gremlins in the works. Anyway, try again. This is RT and Hugh Cornwell who have recorded a cover of Tobacco Road with DM and Peggy.

But how then does it have (access to) the content that is on Youtube?

I sing on (and co-produced this). My first ever gig as a session singer.

You're not the first. I used to not be able to help it, but I thought those days were over. Seemingly not.

Track and vid of the year?

The mighty Hen Ogledd (Richard Dawson et al) with Scales Will Fall.

Don't skimp - give it the full 8 and a half...it even goes all Sun Ra at one point.  Oof!

Nice NPR Tiny Desk Concert, Robert Plant and Suzi Dian,  showed up on YT today. I like these concerts, I have come to enjoy some new things by watching them.

An, I think, excellent 'metal' cover of Peter Hammill's (In the) Black Room

This is not really my thing, but a bit of a guilty pleasure nonetheless.  Recorded for Pat's (King Crimson etc.) 70th birthday...it's amazing how strong this performance is.  You ever heard a 72 year old sing better?

Rush - Finding My Way.  First track, first album (always much better than most people have suggested).  Live 2026.

I'm not sure that's quite the link you intended to post, David!  Try this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVw-4L59Tw0

Very promising.
