Title: Barny and the imagined village Post by: vikki rose on July 03, 2008, 09:01:45 AM Hello Simon
Thanks for answering all these questions its been really nice to have you here. I wanted to know how the cellist Barney Morse-brown got involved in the imagined village, I've seen him around Oxford a fair bit in various incantations but seeing him with you guys is just a really great combination and I just wanted to know how it came about. Also following on I guess from Waterloo wanderers question about an imagined county, do the imagined village plan to stay as is continuing on into the future? Or will new people be joining? If this does happen do you think you would become a kind of musical collective swapping and changing members? Many thanks Vikki xx Title: Re: Barny and the imagined village Post by: simon emmerson on July 07, 2008, 09:22:39 AM i'll get him to join the forum answer this once he's un packed his bags from the weekend

The way I was asked to be part of the Imagined Village happened in a relatively 'organic' way. I first met Simon at a pub session in Dorset a few years ago. About a year later I became involved in playing music with what is now the Village Band, which includes my Wife, Kate Garrett two other musicians from Dorset, and Simon. A little while after joining that band, Simon called me about doing a recording session for one of the tracks on the Imagined Village album and one track turned onto a few and was then asked to be part of the touring band. And here I am ;D. Thanks both. Barny is there anyway apart from that dastardly paypal that I can get hold of the duotone IP? If so could you IM me I don't want to get in trouble with the mods.... Simon what about the musical collective, will you just be getting bigger & bigger until you will need 2 aircraft hangers to practice in or will it be a one in one out system or are you simply going to see how it goes? (doffs cap at all involved & shuffles back to corner). ... And there's Duotone too. We enjoyed the gig at Modern Art Oxford the other day Barney :D Oh and while you're here, any dancing tips? ;) ;D Cheers Nick Title: Re: Barny and the imagined village Post by: simon emmerson on July 08, 2008, 01:11:04 PM you should see him in flares doing retro 70's moves

A very warm welcome to you, my dear fellow. Who would have thought, a few years ago, that a cellist would bring a flock of folkies to its feet in the Bridgwater Hall, Manchester. But you did. It's not the instrument that one associates with jiggery-folkery or World Roots music. How come its your weapon of choice? What else do you play? As a by-the-way, what was the last CD that you bought? Thanks awfully. I still haven't really figured out how this site really works, so I hope I'm addressing all your questions: Hi Vikki: If you send me an email via my myspace site, I can send you an address to send a cheque to and I will post you a CD. How's that? Hi Nick: As a fail-safe, revert to the Bee-Gees Stayin' alive move... flexible knees always help. Glad you enjoyed the gig at Modern Art 8) I'm hoping to play in Oxford again soon. (ps: check out this weeks edition of the Oxford Times magazine supplement, nice interview. Dear Sir Robert Peel, thanks for your kind words. It's me weapon of choice due to my parents forcing me to practice at a young age and withholding my breakfast until it's done... (But I obviously enjoy it a lot more now O0) The last CD I bought was by Merz (myspace.com/merzuk) Title: Re: Barny and the imagined village Post by: Paul on July 09, 2008, 10:51:58 PM What about chopper?
