When did they broadcast it? I got back and couldn't see any coverage??? The gig was hell I am afraid, really tuff sound, we were all struggling on stage then the hard drive with all our loops and drum samples that Andy (our drummer) triggers crashed half way through the set so we had to reboot the system and lost Hard Times as the final number, which was very sad for the Young Coppers. I am amazed the BBC broadcast it. I'll try and find it on i viewer. Oh yes, and the screens that the Glasto stage production people promised didn't work so you couldn't see John Copper talking on 'ouses (or Benjamin Z on Tam Lyn) which kind of defeats the whole point of the 2 songs. Not good.

It was on last night on the red button (or Freeview 302)...certainly didn't come across as a disaster at all...although it was clear that the screen wasn't working properly in the daylight...

thanks I'll check it out now and give you my honest opinion, but believe me it didn't have the on stage vibe of Wychwood, but then all the lovely people from the talk a while forum weren't there! Actually the crowd were very forgiving, real fans singing along to all the words, dancing and stuff. Sold lots of CD's. I am a bit grumpy because us and Buddy Guys band were escorted out of the site by some one from the Glasto security team who didn't have a clue were they were going and got us completely lost. It took  2 hours to get back to our car park, driving around the perimeter roads and back lanes on the one way system following some kid in a land rover who was lost. I only live 45 minutes away. Sheila Chandra lives 15 minutes from the site. Would have been quicker for her to have walked.

I too thought you couldn't see the screens properly because of the sunlight at first, as later in the set during Tam Lin you could make them out. We thought it was because it was getting a bit darker.

The sound was fine, from my point of view until the last number then it seemed to fall apart a bit. You've explained that now.

And it still had me dancing, as it did Eliza and most of the audience so don't be too hard on yourself ;D ;D ;D

Yeah, the screen is a loss on those two songs, and especially so since Glasto is a chance to get across to people who wouldn't normally be interested in anything that falls under the "Folk/Trad" umbrella.

This is the best band on the planet just now, and I'm not given to hyperbole, as I've said a million times  :P

just watched it, not bad at all given the conditions, some of the overall band tuning was going out because we couldn't hear ourselves too well  but must admit it's a great bit of filming by the BBC and the crowd and band looked fantastic. I didn't mind 'ouses without the screen as it gave the camera a chance for some really nice 'Glastonbury moments', the sun shining through the sitar, all that stuff. The festival really did look very beautifully and Avalonian from the stage with the sun ducking behind the clouds and the light constantly changing, some how the  filming caught all that. So.....happy me! But I don't think I'll be going back today, it was a real emotional roller coaster. But then Glastonbury always is and will be such is the ways of Albion when she comes out to play. OK how about some great (and dreadfull) festival moments from you lot. I've got a few to share but what are yours...tell me about  Cropredy for example.

Glad you agreed about the tuning Simon; I only caught a couple of minutes of Eliza bopping about playing fiddle, and had to turn off because I find unintentional discordancy physically painful (intentional is different, I enjoy Bellowhead tremendously). Good monitors are so important.

(And if anyone mentions June Tabor then I thought of it first).

We caught the performance just as Cold Haily started (had been watching Elbow) and thought it was really good - no pain at all!  I appreciate what you say about all the problems Simon, but I thought it came across really well on TV - the atmosphere of the festival and the beautiful light captured by the camera helped too.  It would have been great to see IV at Cropredy this year - an opportunity missed in my opinion.  Oh, and I'm not telling about my worst Cropredy moments, musical or otherwise! :-X  Thankfully, most of my Cropredy memories are very very lovely ...  :D

Just watched the set via my computer ;D  Really enjoyed it, and looking forward to seeing you at Cambridge :D

Hi Simon, I just thought it sounded a little " sparse " compared to usual performances but it was still very very good indeed and Eliza was rocking :) Well done despite conditions !

 :D I am so lucky, cos I have two little battery powered speakers attached to my pc, so any sound problems I put down to them!!! :D

Hi, just got back from  Leigh-on-Sea.

Simon, I was very disappointed with the sound on the BBC, I was hoping you would say it was their mix and that it had been all right on the night. I felt it didn't have the same great feel as Wychwood, and it's a shame.

But apart from the sound, I thought the gig came across really well, the visuals were great, and I was so pleased they showed it at all.

At first we thought you didn't have a screen at all, then halfway through Tam Lyn it was just visible, I too thought maybe it was the sunlight directly on the stage.

I hope it all goes well at Cambridge, sure the beeb will definitely show some of it from there.

I often find the sound from live gigs as put out by the TV to be a bit weedy and strange. I think it's because they're taking a line from the mixing desk and using that directly. So what you hear from the TV is something that was mixed to sound good coming out of a PA to a field full of thousands of people. Invariably it doesn't sound so good by the time it's in your living room.

Live albums usually undergo a huge amount of remixing - and often re-recording - which is cheating but quite probably necessary to make the recording 'feel' like it did when you were there.

The main thing is the Beeb actually covered it... Now, lets see what they give us from Cambridge.

Yes I agree, and it's up on their website as well. That is great. I will have another listen when I get the chance.

just got back from Glastonbury.      I was at the very front, singing and jumping up and down  ;D.  It did have a very different feel to Wychwood.     I did enjoy it but it was not such a good atmosphere as Wychwood.     However there was a man standing next to me who had never listened to the cd, etc.   he said that it was the best thing that he had heard in ages.     I think there was probably more people less familiar with the band than at Wychwood though.   The queue for the cd signing was the longest we saw all weekend, and we spent most of the weekend at jazz world [Buddy Guy was great and as for Eddy Grant yesterday he was amazing - I think he would of carried on all night].      

Shall look forward to seeing it on the tv

btw we had our own problems getting out on Saturday, but obviously not as bad as yours Simon

so which one were you: beard, no beard, one of the 2 fat blokes with brown curly wigs, brown face paint and huge false breast that they kept waggling at me? Were you in the viking hat with horns? The English Civil war hat? Or maybe the sensible sun hat, or no hat? So many options.

sorry if that sounded a bit rude, it was just from the stage there was an amazing display of head wear, as you can see from the TV footage, just wondering if any of it was on your barnet??

Na didn't take it as rude Simon.     Not looked at the footage yet.    But there was someone pointing their video camera at me so I wouldn't be surprised.    Hopefully himself will have soon finished washing the van and we can have a look.

cazzer, could you see the screen? You couldn't see it at all on the TV footage.

agreed, just watched it with some of the band (passing by on their way back from the festival). The sound was linked from my computer to my stereo and the sound quality is fantastic, some of the best live mixing I've ever hear from the BBC, and I'm a really fussy git. Great bottom end, dynamic mixing, drums sound crisp, you can hear the details of the percussion and the cello is rocking, literally at times. Can any one rip it for me and AnnieD? I've tried using a programme called snapx pro that can record any moving image playing on my desk top and save it as a Quick Time file (or whatever), I can then play it on an iPod, e-mail it to the band etc, but it isn't recording the sound. Any other suggestions? I have a couple of Macs. I don't hold out much hope of the BBC sending me a requested DVD.

Finally got to watch it.     Could not get link to work on Internet Explorer, but got it to work on Firefox.   No sign of me anywhere but we could just make out Alan on a couple of occasions.    To be honest Annie I didn't even realise that the screen was on until nearly the end of Tam Lyn.

Ah, just spotted this, I was to the Right of the stage (as I looked at it!), pretty much in line with Martin in fact.

I really enjoyed it, although it took about 20 mins to get the sound ballence right, it was vey 'muddy' at the start I though, but improved immensely.

A pity about the big screen, I think a 40 ft Benjemin is just what you need to catch the eye of any passing punters.
