Title: Re: Woodworm & Cropredy - Chatter Post by: Dad Volt on June 03, 2004, 12:01:19 PM Anyone got any idea how much money the festival pumps into the Cropredy & surroundings economy? I reckon we will spend £100 a head on various things either on site or off site Pubs, Supermarkets etc. If there are 20 000 people there then that's ......er........a lot of money ??? £2 million quid!! Cor, am I typical in my spending or am I a tightwad/ moneybags?
Title: Re: Woodworm & Cropredy - Chatter Post by: Chris on June 03, 2004, 03:04:09 PM There's no way Cropredy would be able to support both pubs on its own, IMHO. And I reckon the village shop wouldn't survive as a stand-alone enterprise either.
Title: Re: Woodworm & Cropredy - Chatter Post by: Paul on June 03, 2004, 06:40:27 PM The village shop certainly needs the festival to survive. Most similar shops in canal side villages closed down long ago.
Not certain about the pubs, there is possibly enough passing traffic from the canal. Thrupp still has two pubs. Paul Title: Re: Woodworm & Cropredy - Chatter Post by: johanna/ulla on June 04, 2004, 01:48:36 PM Good question, Dad V.
It“s about 100 pounds every year, me thinks. But I don“t spend too much in the Brasenose or Red Lion and I never bought something from the village shop. During the week before the festival the money goes to Tescos in Banbury, this record shop in Banbury, some cloths shops, the Indian Restaurant and the brilliant Thai near Banbury Cross (Ride a Cock horse to Banbury Cross...) and to The Mill Theatre. During the festival most of the dosh goes to Wandsworth Brewerie ::) Title: Re: Woodworm & Cropredy - Chatter Post by: tony the roundhead on June 04, 2004, 01:57:35 PM and the brilliant Thai near Banbury Cross (Ride a Cock horse to Banbury Cross...) There is a great new Thai restaurant just openned round the corner from that one Johanna, opposide the Raj. We were in there on Tuesday night and we thought it was the best Thai we'd visited for a long time. The sort of place where the chef comes out to check you are enjoying your meal. Worth a visit in August.
