Title: Woodworm & Cropredy - Anecdotes
Post by: Nick on May 10, 2004, 04:55:21 PM
I'm sure you have a million anecdotes of the festival collected over the years. I think it would be worth a thread to chat about the things you've done and the tall stories you've heard or witnessed over the time.

I'll start by asking about the year of the flood, when we lost much of the camping area to the rising canal waters the week before doors opened. Tell us how you coped!

Cheers

Nick

It was quite a shock to drive over the bridge the week before the festival and see the seagulls on Campsite 4.  Luckily everyone co-operated fantastically and although very stressful I believe that weekend was still enjoyable.  Plan B was exectured perfectly

Chris

On a lighter note, each year we receive hundreds of e mails and letters with requests for information.  We keep the most amusing on display (to cheer us up when under stress).  My favourtie is still an e mail asking 'If I buy a camping ticket am I guaranteed an erection?)

The National Rivers Authority had got a big telling off for the Easter Floods of the previous year, when heavy weather had overfilled the waterways north of Oxord and caused huge insurance losses for Leamington Spa, Banbury (remember the Mill with 4 feet of water in the auditorium?) and particularly the wealthy suburb of Kidlington, home of many influential local govt. folk. When July repeated the rain, and smelling more trouble, they saved themselves blame by opening the sluices and emptying the Cherwell on Cropredy and environs, creating effectively an artificial flood plain. It wasn't until the following spring that Woodworm discovered that it was a man-made rather than a natural problem. Thanks guys!

Last year my son, Sam, came just for Saturday (due to various circumstances)

As the arrangement was being made at the 11th hour, and not wishing to leave anything to chance, least of all disappointing The Boy, I arranged to go to B-St-M and collect his ticket

While I was forking out the cash Sam was nattering to Chris Leslie about good guitar web-sites, in came Dave Pegg and then Ric Sanders popped his head round the corner..... as we were leaving Simon Nicol was by his car and shared a wave with my son and myself.

Did this make his day\week\month ? - you bet it did

He was chuffed to bit... and if I am honest so was I.

I am sure, given the sort of guys that they are that this is not a particularly remarkable story. I would expect that there are many FC devotees who have had similar encounters. But for Sam it was especially cool to be able to meet the band (or most of them anyway) when so many bands hide behind security and limo's that FC could spent time for a snot-nosed teenager and his grinning Old Man

Bet he tells his kids about it in years to come !!!
