Title: Ok Time to ask you lot a question Post by: Simon Care on November 08, 2005, 08:48:03 PM If you had to choose an album of mine, which one would you say was the best and why?
Out of Albion Band, Edward II, Tickled Pink, etc etc etc Title: Re: Ok Time to ask you lot a question Post by: Barry on November 08, 2005, 09:15:54 PM I'm very fond of "This Way Up" and "Live At Cropredy" - both by EII
Why? Well - never got to see you with the Albions, neither have I seen Tickled Pink (yes - I will rectify that). Edward II were great favorites of (then) friends of mine, a band called Pavanne, who dragged me along to see you at Rochester Sweeps when they supported Edward II at the Sweeps Ball (if fact, I think Kelly went out with your drummer, briefly?) Both these albums capture for me memories of a time when things were happier and before it all went sour. That, and the fact that the blend of music and influences that went into EII was totally unique and damn good fun. You were the last band that I couldn't stop myself dancing to. And that saying something. Title: Re: Ok Time to ask you lot a question Post by: Simon Care on November 08, 2005, 09:30:36 PM Suppose i might aswell ask for worst as well

It's probably EII "This Way Up", but that's because it reminds me of seeing them live, in several incarnations. Always a treat. Title: Re: Ok Time to ask you lot a question Post by: Paul on November 08, 2005, 10:56:12 PM I've not listened to the albums, but I thought Edward II were absolutely brilliant live. I loved the blend of trad English and regae, couldn't keep still when they first played at Cropredy. You can't beat a band title of Edward the Second and the Red Hot Pokers either ;D
Paul Title: Re: Ok Time to ask you lot a question Post by: Barry on November 11, 2005, 04:30:16 PM OK Simon - let's turn it on it's head - what is the album that you are proudest/most satisfied with? And which one makes you dive for cover crying "Not me, mate, I just look like him!" ;)
Title: Re: Ok Time to ask you lot a question Post by: Simon Care on November 11, 2005, 08:54:59 PM The albums that i am proudest of are The Cecil Sharp Centenary Collective and This Way Up, Edward II
The one i hate the most is Shift by e2K,,,,,,,,,just cringe when i listen to it everytime. Simon ps. i quite like 1990 - Albion Band Title: Re: Ok Time to ask you lot a question Post by: Polly Oxford (Andie) on November 15, 2005, 01:55:32 PM The complete album I play most is 'This way Up', which would probably be on my desert island as it is guaranteed to bring a smile to my face and a bounce to my feet. But there are several morris tracks from Cecil Sharp and the Albions that are on my 'priority random' list and I couldn't bear to be without. - trouble is, I never remember the titles, just the stepping!

Jackdaw Title: Re: Ok Time to ask you lot a question Post by: Simon Care on November 15, 2005, 06:19:42 PM That was a great gig to play at!

Hi Simon, I'd be interested in a bit more on that if possible - what do you feel's wrong with it, which tracks/aspects/etc didn't work. Unfortunately I missed out on getting any of the EII albums, but I do have 'Shift'. Haven't played it in quite a while but I remember quite enjoying it at the time. I think I got it free though so that always tends to help! Some of the tunes on there were great - I think 'Blackthorn Stick' was one of the highlights. Favourite albums? It's hard to say really... The '89/1990 Albions was a great era for the band but it's hard to separate the two albums so I might have to sit on the fence slightly. 'Twangin & Traddin' was a smashing album as well Title: Re: Ok Time to ask you lot a question Post by: Stephan on November 16, 2005, 11:37:56 AM I am soooo lost here. After getting married(over 20 years back-second time lucky ;D) I lost touch with a couple of things:
1-home brewing(and I was good-my Pale Ale won the National in 1984) 2-The folk scene-to me The Albion Band was in the 70`s and Cambridge-nah not the Uni-I scraped into Leeds. I guess I am asking -with a tradition of Fairport,Martin Carthy and some industrial ballads etc-who would you suggest I should should listen to now as the younger singers/players taking it forward? Stephan Title: Re: Ok Time to ask you lot a question Post by: Simon Care on November 18, 2005, 06:09:52 PM I suggest you listen to people like:
Eliza Carthy Karine Polwart Jim Causley Jim Moray Ed Rennie and Jackie Oates Bellowhead Tickled Pink Kate Rusby Devils Interval for a start Simon Title: Re: Ok Time to ask you lot a question Post by: Stephan on November 19, 2005, 03:10:23 PM Thanks for that Simon-I`ll check them out.
Stephan Title: Re: Ok Time to ask you lot a question Post by: Dazza on November 25, 2005, 01:43:00 PM I've not really heard much of EII or the more modern Albion stuff but I really like the latest Tickled Pink Album and the stuff you've done on Morris On. If I was forced to chose though it'd probably be GSoMO.
Dazza. PS why do you take the grill off your Black Pearls? I've tried it on mine and I can't hear a difference? Title: Re: Ok Time to ask you lot a question Post by: Simon Care on November 25, 2005, 09:05:51 PM It makes quite a difference when using a microphone. It means you can get the mic nearer to the sound rather than having to crank the mic up to feedback levels
