Title: Festival Food prices
Post by: Andy on August 31, 2022, 03:54:43 AM
OK, so I understand that Traders had a tough time with COVID - who didn't? But Festival Food prices this year went nuts as far as I'm concerned. That's no one festival in particular, but all those I went to.

These examples (there are loads more):

£8 for a jacket potato

£12 for a burrito

£5 for an instant coffee

just ensures that, with pensioner finances, we bring our own food from now on. Which is disappointing. In the past there were at least some reasonably priced stands, but they probably went to the wall.

I spoke with one trader at a recent festival and he said that trade was down, hardly surprising, but pitch prices were up, so at least some of the blame for the prices rests with the organisers.

I paid well over a tenner for a baked potato in Melbourne in the Spring and it was one of the best meals I've eaten recently.  I guess my point is that it very much depends on what they give you...£8 could be a bargain or an absolute disgrace.  Same for the burrito...

A fiver for a coffee of any description is outrageous, and for an instant is downright robbery.

There were some more reasonably priced items. But not many!

On the Saturday at Cropredy (boiling hot, of course) my son came back from a stall with some slices of melon - they were just right in the circumstances. I asked him how much they cost, he said 'You don't want to know.' I don't know if they were outrageously priced, but I assume they were more than he would have normally paid. Nice, though..
