Title: Old photos
Post by: Staffan on January 03, 2010, 09:52:45 AM
This Christmas , Santa brought this not so technical TAW:er a new technical device, that enables the transfer of the old colour slides into photos on the computer So the transferring has begun and among the boxes containing almost 20 years of slide photos are several from concerts over the years.Maybe a few of these could be of interest here. I start off with a couple from Cropredy 1977. I've tried to take them down in format, so I hope they'll be easy to watch.
Enjoy!

Unfortunately I wasn't.

But your question brings to my mind how difficult it was to get to know about a thing like Fairport Convention playing at a garden fete in Cropredy, when living i Sweden and only having MM, Folk News and a couple of other magazines to rely on (No internet or homepages then, youngsters!  ;D)
I think I saw a small notice in either, just as I took a week's charter trip to London, and when there, on the day of the gig, on chance took a train to Banbury, walked to Cropredy ( if I remember correctly, I´ve done that once..) and then asked my way around. My biggest fear was that I wasn't gonna get in!! The - "-Sorry, all tickets sold in advance!" - nightmare, so I hung on to the entrance pole, or how I should describe it, and was the first to get in. How lucky I was! There's much more to that story, but it'll have to wait til some other time...

Well, the slides What I know I have are good ones from the 81 warm-up gigs at the Half Moon, a few Broughton Castle and different 80´s gigs here and there...

Here, the feel of the garden fete and a -then- longhaired bass player whisking away the hair

Here are a couple from what I´ve always thought was one of the warm-up gigs at The Half Moon, 1981. The slides are dated by me as being taken in August 1981 but when I miss RT in the pictures and I look at the setlist from the 10th, where there are at least five Thompson tracks, I´m getting a bit unsure of wherefrom these photos are.Maybe I´ve forgotten we went to The Half Moon for two concerts, one with the Full-House-lineup and one with the late 70´s 4-piece.
I´ll have to keep brooding!
If anyone can nail date and venue, please let me know.
After all I´m a librarian!  ;D
I want to get things right!!  8)

Slight topic and chronological drift- but I´ll be back on track in a while with a few slides from 1981.
At least this is a Fairport connection. I just couldn´t withhold: Ian Anderson fronting Jethro Tull, Gothenurgh , autumn 1969

The festival grew, but it also meant that a limited amateur photographer with a very limited and amateurish equipment could only once in a while capture the fave band on stage so a few feelgood memories from the early 80´s before getting really close to the band on stage again:

Aaahh, this one got forgotten. Steeley Span played 1984, heading Friday night in the dark, so I think this is from a Prior & Kemp-performance at the 1982  Cropredy (unfortunately I cannot find my 1982 Cropredy programme, anyone got a spare?  ;D)

I would just like to say how much I am enjoying seeing these photos - and I wasn't even there! Was the world a simpler place then or is that just an effect of getting old?

Title: Re: Old photos
Post by: Staffan on January 05, 2010, 10:28:46 PM
I think it´s a mix of both. A lot of things were easier, others more difficult (finding out about and getting to Fairport gigs from abroad for example).
But the years have a tendency to polish up old memories to a level where it really wasn´t. I for one remember how the sound wasn´t always very god at gigs, especially outdoors, I went to in the past.
Aren´t there always two sides to a coin?  ;)

Apologies, I  stand corrected. '81 Broughton Castle was indeed also Theakston's, according to the programme. Can't remember '79 & '80 (driving home straightaway afterwards, therefore not heeding the bar) & can't lay my hands on the '79 prog, but '83 > it was Wadsworth's.

This probably isn't the right place to ask this, but still...does anyone know if Peggy has a brother who had a pub somewhere in the SW in the 80's?  I remember going in to a pub somewhere on the way back from Glasto (to Hampshire) in (I think) '85 and seeing the place plastered with Fairport memorabilia.  That was a Wadworths pub as well....and I seem to remember there being a Pegg on the licensee plate over the door.  However, I might well have imagined the whole thing....

Jude - at first sight, that's what I thought... but on closer inspection, it looks like there's a ciggie in evidence by the mike stand. It might be just a trick of the light (or my poor eyesight), but - it's not Swarb is it? (I'm so embarrassed here in case it realyy is Jude!!)

The spotlight making his hair look much lighter - tho not blond(e).
And he would be standing by Simon with RT being on t'other side of the stage...

There will be a grovelling apology from me if I'm wrong.

Thanks a lot.
It's been great sharing them with all you Fairport friends. I think it's nice that they are no longer hidden away in a cupboard in the cellar. But now it's almost over. I have a few slides from Cropredy 1987, after that I didn't see Fairport as often. My son was born in April 1988 and from then on it was family life that mattered. I didn't have many opportunities to see Fairport "on my home turf" but from 2003 I - and now also the family -enjoy a Fairport gig now and then. In that respect it was fantastic to have the whole family with me on the 2007 Cropredy Saturday, 20 years since the last Cropredy festival!
But I hope this thread has inspired others to bring out their old photos and share them with us!  :D

Amount of - definitely
Length of - in my case, when looking at photos of me, you can almost date the year by the length of my hair over the years.
The change when you go from really long hair to short is so quick and drastic that it takes some time to recognize the person when you see him/her again.   :D

Regarding the photos of Cropredy '87, did Swarb and RT appear together on stage? I used to have a video of Cropredy '87 that I taped off the telly (image that, Fairport on TV!) which showed RT solo, and playing a Sailor's Life with June Tabor and Ric on violin, and Swarb playing Rosie and Fiddlestix, but nothing from the Full House line-up, which seemed a bit odd given that all the line-up were present.

I think a few of the same performaces were used on the 'It All Comes Round Again' video (I'd love to have that on dvd!)

These are all fantastic, thanks!

staFCarin, what make of scanner is it? I keep looking for a secondhand Nikon Coolscan on eBay but they all seem to go for far too much money!

Bit of general advice for people using these devices to scan slides - it is UNBELIEVABLE what rubbish slides collect over the years. Give them a clean (go easy) with a SOFT lens brush before scanning. I find those little vacuum cleaners are useless. Try to do clean the slide from underneath so that the dust and crud doesn't go straight back onto it. Also you don't want all the muck getting on the scanner.

I didn't clean some 40 yr old slides and the scans were covered in what looked like a black snowstorm when I viewed them on a big monitor. It's much easier to clean slides than to retouch them afterwards.

Incidentally, if anybody uses dust removal software when scanning, it doesn't always work with Kodachrome. It's something to do with the dyes and refractive index - any process E-6 films like Fuji, Ektachrome etc should work OK. The annoying thing is that Kodachrome retains its colours best of all over the years. If you used Agfachrome - errr, hard luck!

It was a Christmas present from my wife , that´s why I haven´t asked too many questions about it, but it was bought from a very reliable Swedish internet shop:
www.netonnet.se

Good luck.
By the way, I was too lazy, and excited about my new means of getting hold of old photos, to clean the old slides, so they are just put into the USB Film and Slides Scanner directly from the slides boxes!  ::)

That's a KÖNIG, which I don't think is available over here. I've had good results with an Epson Perfection scanner before now.

They are available from here http://www.jmbav.co.uk/department/scanners/. May treat myself to a late Christmas present or a very early birthday present.  :) :) :)

I started to scan in all my slides about 10 years ago with an attachment for an ordinary scanner but it went almost straight into the bin as it was so slowwwwwww. This looks a lot better. I have over 30 years worth of slides (or 3 suitcase fulls) to deal with so it will take time even with this!

Hi Chris, if when you reply to a post have a look and see if you have 'additional options' underneath the writing box and to the left.. if so, click on that and you should be able to see the option for attaching a photo..

Not sure if you need to have 10 posts before you can add pictures though.... :-\

A punter took advantage of a short photo session!

This is the Bonny Bunch of Roses era isn't it.  I always thought that this is when they looked super 70s cool.  No giving way to the bondage trouser look of the time ;D

Interesting that time hasn't been playing tricks - the photos and the styles have stood the test of time very well.  Mr Swarbrick particularly looks the part.

It most certainly is. I remember grieving that I'd bought the newly released BBOR album in London the week before, since it was on sale here too and the band signed it! I thought I couldn't afford buying two albums so no signatures. Not that time but years later; it has most certainly been made up for! ;D
According to my diary the garden fete took place on July 23rd 1977 and all proceeds would go to a new roof on the Cropredy Village Hall!

Talking about BBOR and 1977 I cannot help but sharing this rather bad - but still atmospheric -photo from Fairport on stage at Cropredy that night. The stage was about one foot above the lawn on which we lay, leaning relaxed onto bales of hay, real ale in hand. The light show was 70-ish dramatic:

This series just keeps getting better! Thanks for these - I'm now trying to work out when I saw them at University College London and then walked back to East Finchley - not many night buses in those days. I think it was May/June 1978 (1979 seems too late) at what was probably the UCL Summer Ball or equivalent. I had no connection with UCL - we went purely because the Albions were on the bill. I particularly recall Gresford Disaster though I'm not sure everyone there would have felt the same about it. ;)

Title: Re: Old photos
Post by: jude on January 25, 2010, 12:19:45 PM
they were hotlinked from another site so they were removed...
here is the reasoning for not using hotlinks from NickAdmin

When you put a link to something on someone else's website, that someone else gets to hear about it each time that link is activated. In your case you put a link to an image into a post on Talkawhile. Then, every time someone looked at the Talkawhile thread, the link to that image was activated so that the image could be displayed.

The person (or software) on the other end of the link will have noticed the repeated activity from Talkawhile and chosen to do something about it. Since it was a picture it's owner has probably set things up so that one or two views are allowed but repeated views become blocked. You would have to pay a royalty or get some other agreement to persuade the picture owner to let you see the image unblocked.

This is why Yabb has often said please avoid hotlinks as they may end up being blocked. Since the requests to show the link come from Talkawhile this sort of thing might earn Talkawhile a bad name in the net community and that would not be a good thing.

This sort of thing also happens a lot with people's avatar pictures. It is why Yabb says 'send us a copy of your picture and let us host it.' Otherwise you run the risk of the picture turning into a small rectangle with an X in it.

Cheers

Nick

Hi Stephen,

The photos you posted were hotlinked images rather than uploaded images.

Please can you read this topic:

http://www.talkawhile.co.uk/yabbse/index.php?topic=28469.0

It might also help to read this next topic:

http://www.talkawhile.co.uk/yabbse/index.php?topic=22971.0

which says a few things about adding links into posts (and sort of covers the reason why we don't like hotlinked images - because there are ways to hack them so that malicious things happen when someone follows them).

Cheers

Nick

(p.s. Thanks Jude for finding that quote - it's still current and (though I say so myself) quite succinct  8) )

I vaguely recognised him actually.  I did wonder if it was that guy called 'Jesus' (don't laugh) that was a bit of a relic from the late 60's/early 70's and reappeared at festivals in the early 80s (I saw him at one at a Hawkwind festy at Crystal Palce circa '85).  Looked a bit similar to that, but I don't know...my memories are probably as hazy as Jesus's...

He is having a good pick though, isn't he?   ;D

Title: Re: Old photos
Post by: Joss on January 26, 2010, 07:30:55 PM
I don't think that guy is the one known as 'Jesus' who appeared at many London gigs, particularly the Roundhouse, and Festivals in the early 1970s. He had fair hair and generally took his clothes off!  His picture appears in one or two books on Festivals, and I think on the festival website although it's a while since I trawled through that.

OK, this is really dragging stuff up from the depths of memory, but in the Albionettes picture, I think the guy with the beard and the white trousers is Dave Busby, who arranged all the dancing for Lark Rise and The Mysteries at the NT, and who was married to Dolly Collins.

that was the, short lived, immedialtly post "Babbacombe Lee" line up after DM and Norm had hightailed it, late 71 early 72 the exact dates escape me
and no i never saw Swarb play anything like that monstrosity onstage, which, of course, doesn't mean he never did

I saw him play that thing. Swarb did some solo gigs around the mid-70s, can't remember when exactly. But he played it then (New Theatre, Cardiff).

Must have been 23 April 1978. Just discovered this

Here is a picture with more shorts (That is if I have attached the file correctly, fingers crossed). I think it was a soundcheck at Cropredy 1984.

It's quite possible but my memory doesn't run as far as that, I do remember drinking a lot of beer. Wadsworth that year according to the programme, was that their first year? I preferred the Theakstons.

I was there in '79. It rained then too! I remember hearing Swarb play a solo in Sloth (I think) and it was just splendid, like music from the spheres .........amid the cow-pats ::)

'84 was memorable too - my then boyfriend decided that the relationship was over (didn't tell me for a while) as I'd told him how to help when putting up my (unwieldy and idiosyncratically behaved) tent. (I could actually put it up on my own, but didn't want to hurt his feelings ::))

This thread is INSANELY good - should be made 'sticky'. Seeing 1979 pictures... Brilliant! my Mum would have been 'heavy' with child (me!) though not at the festival. I was the first of the Watts family to attend the prestigious event but not until 1995 if memory serves.

Hi

All the old pics have been great, thanks to everyone for posting.

I didn't attend in '79 as I was at Knebworth. But I did have a distant view of Fairport playing there, sadly no pictures.

I have found one possibly from 1987 at Cropredy. Maart and Ric are both in the group. I'm sure someone will know the correct year.

Quality of picture less than perfect.

I will keep looking for more.

But not at night...

The whole thing (largely to do with the Tull appearance I think) moved up a gear in '87...although I seem to remember I was still camping down by what became the cricket pitch.

I have a large collection (100's) of mid to late 80's photos (many Cropredy, but also including Half Moon warm ups and other gigs) which I picked up off eBay for pennies a few years back...I've never been able to identify the photographer although some ideas have been suggested.  I must get around to digitising them all one of these days, although the copyright issues have always put me off...

I don't think it is Geoff March - he was much rounder in the face - http://www.acousticroutes.co.uk/gallery.html - that's him on the far right of the left-hand 1976 picture.

I saw Decameron a few times in the mid-1970s and had a huge crush on Geoff March.

OK Trevor and Jenny, got me hearing aids back in! Sorry to shove the thread off at a tangent like that, I do have some more shots from 1979, will post 'em in a week or so.

Meantime, here's one from Croppers 1982 which some people may have seen before. It's Professor Bruce Lacey and partner up the field a bit, performing some sort of anointment ceremony.   ???

Apparently this innocent little ritual has grown in the telling over the years. As usual I had the wrong film in & there was only one shot left on the roll. However, you can see various other people were snapping away so where are the shots folks?

David and Chris, I thought the same about the poor bloke trying to explain Prof Lacey & partner to his sprog! Mind you, over the years, there have been several incidents involving me, family, friends and performers that have been difficult to explain in any sensible way. Blame it on the boogie (or the 6X)

Anyway, have got absolutely stuck with these old slides.  ::)  30 years ago, for some lunatic reason I put a load of them in glass mounts! This means I have to take every ****ing one out of its mount,  clean the sticky tape off, put it in a glassless mount, scan it, correct the colour, blah blah blah.

As we're going away for a few days I'm going to stop driving myself mad for a bit, but meantime here's the fantastic Johnny Silvo from Cropredy 1980. This man has performed everywhere from big festivals to front rooms, and with EVERYBODY. Er, Sandy Denny in the 60s at Les Cousins for instance. In the old days, get him together with Dave Moses and Diz Disley and you were guaranteed a hysterical evening. Have a look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O40J0vHjUms for a flavour of Johnny.

Ah well, don't believe everything on't'Internet! Johnny was there all right. I can't remember how many songs he did though. Probably, he was salvaging a "bit of a cock-up" situation - as did Bob Fox a few years ago.

Actually that should read ANYTHING on the Internet. I was just reading an interview with Shirley Collins posted by one of our US brethren. Which was great until I read that Shirley was once married to Martin Carthy, and that she wasn't too big a fan of "Burt Lloyd".  ??? Isn't that the bloke who was in The Cannonball Run?

Was there a problem with the equipment getting wet on the stage?

Very intersting to see the picture of Prof Lacey from 82, I was there and somewhat confused and amused. I do remember however after the performance overhearing somebody asking the young lady what the performance represented, was it a pagan ceremony?, did it have some spiritual meaning?, was it all part of some grand transendental plan?, what was the significance of her role? etc all very deep and meaningful. After the question had finally been completed, the young ladies response was 'No I just like showing off!' a fitting answer that has stayed with me for nigh on thirty years

These are old and fuzzy, and taken with one of those cameras that took 110 film, but I think you can see what's going on.  My first Cropredy, 1984:

Steeleye Span (Maddy with bump).  Note the security fence - and the fact that people are dancing inside it!

I really wish my mum hadn't done that!

More what they did to me really - I was knocked about by the combination of instruments, especially the hammered dulcimer.  Nice to see a clarinet in a folk band too.

Thanks for posting your pictures they are all great. I particularly liked the one showing people dancing behind the fence.

If you have any ohers please post those as well.

If you want to modify your pics you could try the freeware program from www.gimp.org. (thats the Gnu Image Manipulation Program).

Pyewackett were quite big for a short while. Do I remember The Man in the Moon Drinks Claret being voted best album by Radio 2 listeners one year? They used to play regularly in the National Theatre foyer.

These are old and fuzzy, and taken with one of those cameras that took 110 film, but I think you can see what's going on.  My first Cropredy, 1984:

Steeleye Span (Maddy with bump).  Note the security fence - and the fact that people are dancing inside it!

I am ashamed to say I can recognise myself in this picture, I was convinced there was no evidence of my attempt at dancing.

You know, one thing I wanted to add, about this thread in particular, is, as someone who still shoots on film, what a delight it is to see those old scanned pictures. I'm trying to get a digital SLR, in addition to the trusty old Nikon N 80 35mm, but for my first Cropredy will be bringing that trusty Nikon, and my wifes little digital camera, along with my iphone. But for me, there is nothing more wonderful than stumbling upon that box of old pictures, grainy, in various sizes, color  washed out, etc, from the pre-digital age. I'm not knocking digital mind you, but will we feel the same way about digital shots 20 years from now (because lord knows what will be the technology at that point!) as we do about a lost box of treasures such as is being shared on this thread? Im happy we have scanning ability now, in fact I stumbled upon an old set of pics from my first trip to Ireland in 1983 which I hope to get scanned soon for preservation sake. I just wonder whether as we progress in the digital age will we still hold on to those semi blurred Cropredy pics from 2011? Oh that ones blurry, oh let me delete it, or its a nice shot of Fairport...except for that blokes head that got in the way...Delete! Just curious what people think, as I know there are some great photographers here on TAW.

Despite this, I hope its understood, keep them coming, this is a great thread!!

I believe that's the Oyster Band as opposed to Oysterband  ;) :)  I still get annoyed when they try and 'hide' their early history, the Cathy le Surf stuff, Fiddlers Dram etc.  I'm still waiting for the Alan Prosser: The Afro Years compilation :)

When my Mum & Dad died, I went through 500 albums, boxes and bags of old pictures. Most were forgettable, some were important, but marked by age and poor handling.

I threw away thousands of pics of my Mum stood in front of anonymous landscapes from holidays of 50 years.

I kept some, though, which are viewable as an archive  here (http://andyleslie.com/Reboot/Alice%20&%20Keith%20Leslie%20Photo%20Archive/index.htm).

I've been scanning my old pictures in for several years now and will be done by 2015.

My digital pictures take up a huge amount of storage and I have no doubt they'll all be deleted when I die.

All is ephemera.

Depending how particular you are about the results maybe try this : -
I just did some old slides by making a light box contraption out of white cardboard with an open top. An accurately cut slide sized hole in front, a B&Q cheapo tungsten angle poise hanging over the top, my digital camera on mini tripod focused on the illuminated slide - BINGO.
I made a few modifications, set up a shield above the slide to avoid direct light and tried Macro settings - The results were surprisingly good but I only had 30 or so slides to convert.

So do I! While we were travelling around Britain by rail and rucksacks, the merchandise shopping was restricted to a maxi single "Meet on the Ledge", a T-shirt and a sweatshirt. The T-shirt and sweatshirt had a -to me - amusing logo but due to the sweatshirt being in a colour that makes my face look sick - green as the grass - I haven´t worn it much. ;)
The logo could very well be recycled or revived on similar items of today as far as I´m concerned. ;D

These are from a very refreshing New Years Eve at the Half Moon Putney, 1983. I think we PARKED OUTSIDE!

I remember spilling Young's Special down Cathy Lesurf's tights; she was very nice about it and I only had to buy her one double gin. My better half capped this by sitting in a vodka & tonic which was nice. After the gig we crashed out at somebody's "pad" (man) and carried on with the red wine for some time before retiring.

Anyway here's the support act who I think was Mike Maran - didn't write on the neg sheet so i'm not certain.

No idea about why Rolls Royce, but that's the "Strat" that Simon currently uses - the neck is Fender, the body was made by luthier Dick Knight, exact vintage uncertain...

Thank goodness that's been confirmed - I thought that was The Amazing Mr Smith ! He truly is amazing and surreal, and the only man I know  capable of making John Otway cry with laughter (we put Otway on at The Southsea Folk & Roots Festival in 2002 with Mr Smith as the warmup, Otway was in tears of mirth wondering how he was going to follow what he'd just seen).

Still very much gigging, saw him last year :

I was there too! My first live Fairport.

It was Ralph McTell who announced the birth of Daisy and led the whole room in a singalong of 'Daisy, Daisy' for Billy Connolly, who was stood in the corner. I'd forgotten Cathy LeSurf singing with the band, though I remember seeing her in the seated area(!) singing along to Sloth. A fabulous night and Fairport filled in the last few minutes before midnight by singing (Bruce included) Derek and Clive's 'Jump, you f***er, jump' song!

Happy days. Thanks for the photos.

Well, here's one I've just found.
The Expletive Delighted tour, possibly, 1987?
Anyway, after the gig at Tunbridge Wells we invited them back to my mates pub (long gone, now an Indian resturant) and amazingly they turned up, except DM, but with various including Chris Pegg and my hero Jonah (now have a dog named after him).
We got slaughtered...err...a bit merry. At one point I offered Jonah a drink and he asked for a double brandy and port! Which I bought.
Happy days.
Incidentally, that's me in the white shirt next to Peggy.

Well, that looks like Bruce's beard; DM left the band just before that Scandinavian tour; Paul Warren (roadie) took the drum stool for the Oslo gig on 5 Feb 75 (as documented on the "Many Ears to Please" CD).  I wonder if Bruce joined in after that?  No mention in the CD booklet, but it hints that Paul W only played the one gig...

Well, there's only one pic where you get anything like a decent view of the drummer's face - number 8 - and it looks like Bruce to me.

Oh my - thank you for these. I saw this line-up in Aberystwyth - this helps revive some failing memories.
I would have loved to have seen this line-up live. You're very lucky  :)

Interesting December 1975. Isn't that the month sandy Jerry and Trevor left fairport. Sandy looks very tired in the photos doesn't she?

THat's right - would have been their last dates before the split.

I felt fairly lucky catching them the following night in Gothenburgh. Having spent the weekend away from Gothenburgh with my new girlfriend, I didnt have time to make a detour to my flat to pick up my camera before the concert. "-I'll see them again the next year or the year after". I have always regretted that.... I remeber Sandy wearing a long dress, not the one on these pictures but I couldn't tell you who was the drummer for my life. Although I think, that should it not have been either DM or as in this case BR, I probably made a note and remembered.
Loveley photos.

I have this old blurred photo of the ad för the Gothenburgh gig , December 7th 1975.
There we are given the drummer´s name but also a new bass player, David Peck!  ;D
The review in Tuesday´s paper found the band going in too many directions at the same time- Sandy´s own songs, traditional dance tunes, Trevor´s more countrylike material - but found the performance enjoyable but without spark for the first half.

That review hits the nail on the head of Fairport over the years - they were just too good at a lot of things.

I don't think I've ever seen this thread before - what a delight!

I didn't realise Peggy's hair was so long and dark at one time, and I would never recognise Simon without his beard these days - actually I think he's got even more handsome as he's grown older.

I first saw FC back in the late 1970s but I wouldn't have had a clue about the individuals in the line-up, the music was more important to me. Still is, really.

I saw someone playing Paggy's twin neck thingy a few years ago in The Brasenose garden.
Not only that, but he was left handed and had turned it round the other way.
I wondered if it was a similar one but was told it's the actual article.
Can't remember who they were though.

Whilst  clearing out the loft I have come across some old slides and negatives and am currently attempting to transfer these to the computer
They included some from the National Jazz Blues and Folk Festival at Plumpton in 1970
I hope this one is of interest

Lovely!
I was there, too , with my fiancée. It was a blazingly hot day if I remember correctly. Swedish group "Made in Sweden" started off the Saturday program at noon and Fotheringay came on as the third act one and a half hour later. Unfortunatelt we sat rather far from the stage so we didn't see them all too well, so this photo is appreciated. I don't remember if I have the recording but Peter maybe can offer the setlist!?  8)
Thanks for sharing.

I have more photos of other acts but it may take me a while to process them - I will try and post more after Cropredy

As far as the set list went from memory I suspect it was similar to 'Live in Essen' - they certainly included 'John the Gun' as I had a recording on a cassette which was worn out way before Sandy released her version of the song.

Many thanks, Peter!

The covers bring back one or two memories but also confirms what I always have been uncertain about: that two of my favourite Fotheringay songs were played at Plumpton, "The Way I Feel" and "John The Gun".

I thought the photo of Sandy at the grand piano might be taken at the famous Rotterdam gig.

I can assure you that the crowd in the field in front of the stage at Plumpton was much, much smaller, in fact sparse when Fotheringay played at 1:30 in the hot sun..... 8)
