So stunned and saddened by the news of Long Haired Mick's passing. Mick was always around all the time I was associated with Fairport, years before I got the call to join. A top man indeed, Cropredy will not be the same without him.

Indeed, he was a true gent, and will be greatly missed.

Is there a picture of him in Josh's book, that will put a face to the name as I can't quite picture him? Do you have a picture of him Chris from your vast collection?

I've already been asked by others, unfortunately not.

I can't remember whether he appears in Josh's book. You may not know who he was as he was initially Chris Pegg's gatekeeper backstage at Cropredy and then Gareth's....he rarely ventured forth.

A picture of him in profile appears on Fairport's site: http://www.fairportconvention.com/cropredy_news.php

Having never been backstage, I never met LHM, but I do recognise him from the pic.  Judging by the comments on the FC site (and Maart's own words), he was a lovely guy who will be sorely missed; RIP LHM, a glass of whisky this evening to your memory... MOTL

That's sad.
He was a great bloke and always really helpful.

Every Cropredy there were always a couple of trivial things I had to organise with him and without fail he would tell me they were not possible. However you would walk by half an hour later and he would tell you it was sorted.

He sounds like a fascinating chap...I'm sorry I never came into contact with him?  What did he do for the rest of the year(s)?

From posts on fRoots and SOTW forums, he also ran the record stall at Womad and sold World music, folk and blues CDs at various events around London...

He was a really nice man I shall really miss seeing him guarding Gareth's caravan at Cropredy Sad

That´s right!!!

The first time I met him was at my first Cropredy festival in 1993. Peggy sent me to Mick to ask for some Saturday after show passes. Mick said something like: "I don´t know you." And ignored me. I said some nasty things about Mick to a German friend of mine - in German. Some minutes later I got the passes.

On Sunday at the cricket match I met Mick again and he asked me: "Was möchstest du gerne trinken? Ich gebe dir einen aus." (What would you like to drink? It´s on me) I wish I had a photo of my face, Mick collapsed laughing.

I raise a glass to you. Or 2.
